Lucky me, I’ve got two for the price of one for this month’s poetry and photo competitions! I’ve just spent the weekend in Port Alfred.
We headed up the Sunshine coast
one hundred miles away
a river mouth, fishing boats
a three bedroom log chalet
It’s raining again! I’ve had it with spinning and knitting and the greenhouse is up to date so I am reduced to looking at old photos. I came across these from spring of ’08 that looked apt for the residences blog. NOT that I hasten to add are they part of the competition, that would never do!!! Just thought you might like to see them.
No! Not monster mushrooms, just your genuine brand new iron age des res. This is a tourist trap built in N Pembrokeshire on the site of an iron age fort. The buildings are supposedly actually built on the original sites using the original post holes etc to get the size and clustering of the community.
Time was when cricketers walked, snooker champs owned up and, yes, golfers retired when they broke a rule. The gentlemen’s code, as far as I know, never extended to tennis or any of the foootball or hockey variants – in which hoodwinking the ref has become de rigueur, nay a practised skill. Remember Bloodgate and the iconic Dean Richards? But luckily hawkeyed gadgetry is slowly replacing the human eye and on Friday a telly viewer caught Tiger woods cheating – not on his latest blonde this time but on the fringes of the 15th green during the US Masters. He later stated he’d chosen to ‘drop’ a couple of yards back to get a better lie. No behavioural change there then.
Do I care? Should you? Not really, except to bewail the loss of honesty among our heroes. But, hey! All’s fair in love, sport and war and you can’t trust a superpower to play nicely with his drones anymore .

May I introduce for your perusal and delictation the latest inhabitant of The Cave and I hadn’t even had too many beers this time as was the case with Mrs Machiavelli and Das Fürballen.

The theme this time is dwellings: abode, castle, commorancy, den, digs, domicile, dump, establishment, habitat, habitation, haunt, hole in the wall, house, lodging, pad, quarters, or residence.

It’s finally arrived here, sunshine that is. Leaped from the low 40’s (5C) to the high 80’s (30C) in the space of two days, no Spring, one day Winter, next day Summer. Actually it’s 91 (33C) as we speak.
So the theme for the April Poetry comp. must be SUNSHINE. Any form and length, what a blessing it is to have sunshine again , it’s been a long winter.
Closing date? Let’s say April 30, midnight somewhere.
Commissioning the boat so I’m off back to the bilges for a while.
Cherished colleagues! My apologies for the late judging, but things have been even more hectic than when I set this competition and I only got back to The Cave yesterday. Anyway, so as not to keep you on tenterhooks any longer, here we go.
Look who paid a visit yesterday…
