Walk

England v Australia, First Test, Trent Bridge, day 3.

The Great RonnieO, master of the game of snooker, always held his hand up when he made an infringement on the cue ball. My tip caressed the white as I was lining up the shot, he would admit. Sadly, not all sportsmen are sportsmen. I am referring to the nasty/clever ( delete where applicable) machinations of one Stuart Broad.

As an England cricket fan, not born and bred more along the lines of nurture, I am appalled by his actions. I’ve never taken to Broad. Skinny frame, film star looks, there was always something of the night about him. He was blatantly out yet stood his ground. At the end of the Test I wonder if he’ll look back on his batting figures with pride. Continue reading “Walk”

Satanic mills get the go

As we fully anticipated when we moved house, the C_nt’s three 500 ft. turbines have now been given an official green light (as you might say) by the Danish gubmint’s ‘Nature and Environment Complaints Committee’. So three monstrosities the size of the London Eye will soon overshadow the village a mere 600 m. away. Not to mention the poor birds whose migrations will be disturbed.

Those wonderful people at Siemens have proudly announced that these are ‘test’ mills of proportions not previously installed on Danish soil. So they couldn’t possibly offer precise data on their output of noise – or even their output of power! But hey! Who cares about a few villagers, their life-style, their properties and health? Roll up and see and hear the latest technology at work!

I see that our southern neighbours have some similar problems. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-23229097

St. Jean to Ile Jeanotte to St. Antoine July 7-9 2013

Several days out of touch electronically, so this one is kind of dated, will try to catch up if communications allow.

Started at Lock 9 on the Chambly Canal  (they are numbered from North to  South) at 9:15 am. Saturday  We had talked to the lockmaster and bought our passes the day before and he gave us the first opening, two trawlers 44 and 40 both 16 feet wide in a lock 85 by 20 feet, tight but workable.  I chose the starboard wall (wind was blowing that way) leaving Archie in the other trawler the task of keeping to windward.  He was single handed and was obliged to hire a line handler before they would clear him through to Chambly.

Here’s Archie following us in a wide bit between hazards.

Arch s

Inhuman wrongs vs human rights

What is it with the EU ‘mores’?

Not content with dishing out cash to southern states whose farming methods date back to Adam; with bailing out countries whose troubles are all of their own making, and moving their deliberations from Belgium to France for a few days every month by train (at a cost even the PoW would blush at), they now insist that convicted rapists and killers have the ‘human right’ to seek parole!

What happened to the old idea that such pests have forfeited their rights for as long as the Court decided?

If the UK’s monsters are detained ‘at Her Majesty’s Pleasure’, how can an overpaid lawyer from the Continent say they are not? Beats me.

Please indicate what you would do:

1. Hang ’em?
2. Detain them in open prisons in Dover with free one-way travel over the Channel?
2. Send them to live next door to the Eurojudges who want them freed – at the EU’s expense.

June Photo competition – results

Better late than never.

The finalists for June’s photography competition are (in order of appearance)

Janus, for sharing with us his early morning view of the entrance to his new estate

FEEG, for his snapshot of English construction methods

Araminta for her delightful female gnome and Upper Thames.

AND THE WINNER IS …….

FEEG, for his amusing before and after shot of the bedlam in his local street, his picture captured an amusing (for me) take on the subject, well done FEEG.

Hit came from Outer Space

While cleaning out my old blogs I came across this. This is a slightly revised version and didn’t we all love revision.

*****
The plethora of teenage slasher movies in recent years are all based on the true story of a mysterious assailant who targeted schoolchildren in a Scottish school circa 1982. All of the following is true.

One of the perks given to the fifth and sixth year pupils in the comprehensive was that they could take their lunch in the games room far away from the pell-mell. The games room had comfortable chairs that ringed-a-round the perimeter walls, though the various cliques rearranged the seating in their preferred way; normally an enclosed circle. Three net less table tennis tables stood in the centre of the room, nobody played on them, there were no bats, there were no balls, they kept getting pinched. These tables were used as overspill seating and tabling for late coming pupils. Continue reading “Hit came from Outer Space”

Kings v Stormers

My programme

Ja well, that’s our last home game done and dusted 😦

Our visitors The Stormers, that’s the classy Springbok filled outfit from Cape Town, hugely experienced and although perhaps playing slightly under par this season still tough opposition. The Stormers finished top of last years Super rugby log!

We were offered tickets for the Royalty Lounge at R150.00 each, (£10.00) that’s the most I’ve ever spent on a ticket to watch local rugby but, hey, it’s great there, right on the half way line, I like it and it was the final home game of our Super rugby season, so we splashed out!

We met at a local coffee shop at 11.30 for brunch and the Lions / Aussie match, what an entertaining couple of hours that turned out to be, then off to the stadium for our game (kick off 5pm)

We had high hopes of a result today, none of our 3 wins this season have been against an S.A. franchise and having only lost to the Stormers down in Cape town by 8 points our hopes were high.

We started well, 6 – 0 up after 15 minutes or so which quickly due to (more) ill discipline by my Kings quickly became 6- 6 all, we had a player sin-binned but were holding on. And then the dreaded score 2 minutes before half time, not for us, for them. The second half continued in much the same vein as the first, we got a couple of penalties, so did they and then a late try.

Our hopes were dashed, we lost (again) 12 – 24 Continue reading “Kings v Stormers”
