Watery paradise

I left some Caribbean beach between my toes for the flight, the sea in my hair for two days and the Virgin holidays luggage label is still on the rucksack.

I have shells on the dressing table and pieces of washed up coral and I’m wearing the weird shell, local rock and local wood bracelet that Helenora the lady who sat on the beach stringing beads, made for me. Continue reading “Watery paradise”

Seventh Photo Competition – Results

A slow start but a fine group of entries.
I used the word “evoke” in setting the competition and just revisited one of the word’s definitions

“To produce or suggest through artistry or imagination a vivid impression of reality”

Stark though it is, Soutie’s photo of the new home for Autism Eastern Cape produced in me a vivid impression of the realities of the ongoing struggle in this area of care. A triumph of function over form, we see not a homely thatched cottage, but bricks and iron fences. Behind the facade, inside the doors lies the reality, hope and comfort for many.

DECISION TIME – can wait no longer

The photo competition closed officially yesterday lunchtime, but given the fact that OZ had said he would be posting something and is currently suffering Lupine Influenza I thought I’d give him some leeway.

Sadly he has not posted, and the number of photos submitted remains low: only four this time.

Anyway, Continue reading “DECISION TIME – can wait no longer”

Sixth Photographic Competition 12th – 31st March 2011

The theme for this next competition is ‘The Force of Nature’ – the rules for this one are:

  • Manipulation is limited to the usual basics of fine tuning the colour balance and brightness etc, and cropping to make a good composition, but none of the ‘high tech’ manipulation of shots.
  • Photos should be added in a comment following Bearsy’s guidelines
  • Each image should be supported by a brief description of the where / why/ how (not too technical) and what the theme means to you, how you interpreted it….
  • Photographs should be taken within the time frame of the competition.
  • The closing date is mid day on Thursday 31st of March (GMT)
