October gardening

Here I show you a late season pleasure that emerges and flowers with no love and attention from me between cutting back the dead stems in Spring and keeping down some of the weeds before it blooms. I understand it is a Toad Lily. I think it deserves a prettier name!

Ewelme

Sunday afternoon and a beautiful day, so we called into Ewelme and had a wander. Very pretty village in the Chilterns, with lots of interesting history, and watercress beds!

We visited the Church, the School and almshouses and then adjourned to the pub for a cooling ale or two.

To give you some idea of the place, do follow the links above. They are all extracts from a book,

Ewelme – A Romantic Village, its Past and Present, its People and its History by Mrs M Prister-Crutwell.

Autumn colours

While out and about on Saturday with my camera I found that the Autumn is arriving rather earlier than usual here in Oxfordshire, and looking around I have discovered this is due to the rather dry Spring we had here. What does a redneck do with a golf cart?

I was given a golf cart as a birthday gift this year, the first mate decided I needed help getting around the property, the mailbox is about half a mile away at the end of the driveway and up a steep hill, it is quite a hike but not one that I make every day. The gift was greeted with a sigh and as much oh! yes and ah! perfect as I could manage on the spur so to speak.  Anyway it’s a two-seater gasoline powered 1994 model and has the thing on the back where one would keep the bag of sticks if one gorfed which I of course do not, and incidentally never have excepting for one game in the full innocence of youth when convinced by my Scottish uncle James MacDonald Millar that this would be a useful skill to have in later life I attempted a round (he lied).

The Metamorphosis

A quick one for Val.

Just a thought Val, you mentioned the other day about a change of phone. Mrs Toc’s nephew changes his every year and always after much research. His main aim is always towards the camera element on it. The other week he showed me his latest. Very impressive it was too.

As you know, I’m an Apple fan but the weak point of the phone has always been the camera facility. So, if you are serious, have a look at this one.

The results it produces are indeed fantastic!

Tree stumps

The following picture show the large tree exhibition outside the Natural History Museum in Oxford. They are from the rainforest and dramatically show what huge giants are being eradicated across great swathes of various countries.
