Grout Expectations

There’s a leak coming from the room above into the dining room.
The plumber says it’s the grouting in the shower that’s at fault.
The tiler can’t come yet as he’s so busy.
The builder says the tricky bit it getting the old grout out. Continue reading “Grout Expectations”

Catching up on the past

Never one to make it to the cinema I often feel I have missed out. In the past when we regularly went to the Lakes for a holiday we were also members of the local library, where we would descend on the first day and pick up our entertainment for the week – books for the children (as they were then) and a few DVDs for the grown-ups to watch, with a  bottle of wine, cuddled up on the sofa, after they’d gone to bed.
Doesn’t take much to make me happy. Continue reading “Catching up on the past”

Possum (with thanks to Val for the inspiration)

Jen drove carefully along the dirt drive and stopped beside the front veranda steps.  She peeled her clammy thighs off the hot seat and went to check on her passenger in the back of the ute.  “You OK, Possum?” No voice, no movement.  Possum was living up to his name. Council House Blues- The Ballad of Sharon and Kev

Council House Blues- The Ballad of Sharon and Kev

Sharon’s Dad was full of rage,
In the Club at your young age!
Her Mum was worse: “You stupid mare,
Do you think we bleeding care?”

She did calm down at last to gloat
As Sharon rushed to grab her coat:
“You’ll gain more points and good thing too,
The council will provide for you.”

Shoedown at Horseless Gulch (August C/W2)

The beautiful brunette was sashaying down the street oblivious to the stir she was creating: men were falling off ladders, walking into lampposts, filling in crosswords wrong; the smokers outside The Draughty Lum were toppling like dominoes; bin men, dumbfounded, found that they had lost their inherent ability to whistle. The lady’s journey took her past two young men who went by the aliases of Dutch and Beandance.

“She fancies me.” said Dutch. Continue reading “Shoedown at Horseless Gulch (August C/W2)”

This either indicates that I am hopelessly untrendy or that I am a lousy, seriously uninformed cook. Whichever is true, I’m not sure I can live with the shame. Well, ok, I lied about that. I just made shame my new best friend. Continue reading “Cooking – the books.”
