Divers take hook out of shark’s mouth

While on a routine dive in Algoa Bay last week this happened. The injured shark appears at about 1:50, but the intro is worth the wait, it’s very pretty.

UNUSUAL footage of an underwater shark rescue in Algoa Bay has been posted on-line.

The hero of the piece, dive-master Jacques Pitout of Pro Dive, was at the weekend out at Bellbuoy Reef, a nautical mile off Hobie Beach, with his boss Louis van Aardt, and a group of tourists. Continue reading “Divers take hook out of shark’s mouth”

Chariot U.N. resolution #1

Ever fancied being a high flying diplomat?

How about having your children’s education at one of the best colleges in the world paid for, a Caribbean holiday perhaps,  a Maserati or one of these Rolex watches that Tiger Woods promotes?

Now’s your chance!

We are voting on:

a no fly zone over some tinpot dictators country but wait, theirs more we can also decide if we should allow “all necessary measures… while excluding an occupation force”, to be taken to protect  civilians.

There’s a whole load of waffle first and a load more at the end but the above paragraph is the important bit! You can read the other stuff here.

Vote now, too late I’ve closed it 🙂

So, what do we think?

A busy day

Scratch card

A busy day today, all of our pubs have a Guinness promotion, every card is a winner. We have the England West Indies knockout match on today, starts 11am our time and lasts the whole afternoon  (if England lose they go home!)

You might not see me this afternoon, I’m sure that I saw a cherished colleague rule about ‘drinking and blogging’ 🙂

Happy St. Patrick’s day

Sleeping wicketkeeper

Morne Van Wyk

I’ve heard of sleeping policemen but this takes the cake.

Morne van Wyk kept wicket for S.A. against India on Saturday, his performance was shoddy to say the least.

Morne who didn’t attempt a catch off Sehwag early on, missed at least one stumping and according to my newspaper today ‘looked a little soporific’ has admitted that instead of taking a vitamin supplement prior to the match he mistakenly took a sleeping tablet! (link)

Dope!

He had a good game yesterday though (okay he was dropped twice early on and ran out Continue reading “Sleeping wicketkeeper”

India v S.A.

“400+ bring back Alan Donald” was the text I received from a rooinek presently holidaying here, India were on 2 hundred and plenty and seemed heading that way.

As India lost their 2nd wicket Tim the fisherman declared “they won’t make 300”

India v S.A. worm

I thought that members would be interested in this site (ESPN cricinfo) where you can find cool statistics including worms, hawkeye, wagon wheels etc. Continue reading “India v S.A.”

Funny radio ad

Our national broadcaster is very kindly broadcasting every game of the cricket world cup, I always have a match on while driving around here and this ad is flighted reasonably often, it always makes me smile. So I thought that a few cherished colleagues might like it.

Here it is: funny ad (Simply click and select ‘open’ when prompted)

Democracy African style

Some here may remember when I asked members to vote on the sign-writing for our Autism Van (here’s the post) it wasn’t a particularly difficult decision a simple 1 or 2.

To jog memories, here are the choices once again…

You may recall that charioteers voted overwhelmingly for ‘Option 1’

It wasn’t my choice, I preferred the more ‘subtle’ option 2.

In the true spirit of democracy, no AV votes, no PR, a simple first past the post, without my casting vote being invoked, I’m proud to inform you that we took delivery of our car today.

Here she is. Continue reading “Democracy African style”

Quick petrol price survey

I’ve just filled up with petrol, we’ve had monthly increases for 5 or 6 months now.

Our petrol and diesel prices are regulated by the government and adjusted on the 1st Wednesday of each month, the two variables being the Brent crude price and dollar exchange rate.

This month’s hike also included a tax increase announced in our recent Budget.

R9.18 / litre at today’s exchange rate would be about US$ 1.33 ( £0.82 )

I have a feeling that these latest increases are going to hurt our and your economies severely in the near future.

I was wondering what do others around the world pay?

Conversions to US$ or £ would be appreciated.
