Weather report….

Hot. Damn hot. And sticky. I came home from work and had a cool shower: the car gets so very hot when journeys are short and there’s often nowhere to park in the shade outside each visit.  Showered and changed I sat down with the office window open.
About half an hour ago I heard splashes: huge wet drops falling on dry leaves. I looked out to see the tarmac blackening and then the drift of sulphurous  Summer rain came up to the window. At first just a few drops, which stopped… then a while later a heavier fall, enough to make puddles. It’s still hot, but less sticky.

Leaf of the passionfruit vine: I had to trim this monster at the weekend.

We’ve had some lovely days: lots of gardening done, meals outdoors and windows flung wide at night.I’m loving it.
What’s the weather like with you?

At a snail’s pace….

Cutting through the flex that provides the power for the hedge trimmer is one sure way to slow down the process of hedge trimming… and that’s just what I did just before lunch yesterday. Throwaway?

This chair has been with us for many  years,  providing a nice place to sit, and latterly growing pretty lichen – but earlier this year I was the final straw….

So it seems the bench is another symbol of our throwaway society.

Nature

It is hard to post after such a disturbing image and situation in highlighted and discussed on these pages, without appearing to be flippant.

So in light of what has happened I plan to go out today with my eyes on nature with renewed awareness that none of us knows what the future holds for us and that we should make the most of each day.

“Can you ride tandem?”

You may remember it?
It seems appropriate this week to mention it as it was called ‘Tour de France.’

Well until today I couldn’t say that I’d ever tried a tandem, but this afternoon that all changed.
At our annual  cycling club BBQ we strolled into the garage to ‘ew’ and ‘awe’ over the host’s new acquisition – a super light framed bike. The garage was full of bikes and bike bits and other bike related stuff. The car didn’t have a look in. The mower was squeezed in a corner.
I wandered off after seeing the bike, but soon returned to see what was going on when I heard jollity: a tandem had been unearthed and various folk were being allowed a go. Continue reading ““Can you ride tandem?””
