Yes, I know what I said……

But some news can’t be allowed to pass without comment.

At last a gubmint has found the stones to do what has been crying out for attention for decades.

Supernaturalists use their ‘faith’ to ‘justify’ everything from female genital mutilation to polygamy and the cruel slaughter of animals for food. Frankly I don’t care about their weird practices in general but I care very much when there are innocent victims, either human or animal who/which are given no choice in the matter.

Hurray for commonsense and b*gger the protestors! Yes, you too, rabbi!

Life’s a Beach

On vacation this week, borrowed a house from my rich business partner, on the beach at Lewes (say Lew-is), Delaware. Got here late Friday night via Delaware City, Delaware (more about which later). Raining today and windy with it, holiday innit?
Lewes (the First Town in the First State) was settled by the Dutch in 1631 in what was to become Delaware (the first state to sign the Declaration) so naturally it is home to the Zwaanendael Museum just a couple of blocks away from here, and perhaps a little more surprising home to the Kalmar Nykel, a replica of the Dutch ship that brought original settlers to Wilmington, Delaware (sixty miles North of here), however, they were Swedes, following me so far?
Here she is back in 2011 on the Bay.

Political Diva

I don’t know who you are,
But you must be some kind of superstar,
Cause you got all eyes on you no matter where you are,

(Superstar- song by Jamelia)

hcHillary Clinton is on top of the world. $300,000 a speech and a multitude of extras. Jet plane. Cheque. Five star presidential suite. Cheque. Five other rooms reserved for lackeys. Cheque. And Clinton will only stay at the venue for 90 minutes tops. No video or audio recording is allowed. It would be good if someone bootlegged one of these “concerts” and put them online as no doubt she sings the same songs every night. That would kill the golden goose.

Who would want to hear her anyway? And what could see possibly say that would be interesting?

Stand up and be elected

It’s refreshing to see that the worlds of politics and entertainment are finally merging with Backside’s hero – the toffs’ answer to Russell Brand – threatening to return to the House to lead the ever-amusing Tories into the next election.

So all together now!

Bring me Sunshine, in your smile,
Bring me Laughter, all the while,
In this world where we live, there should be more happiness,
So much joy you can give, to each brand new bright tomorrow……..

Repeat ad nauseam

No nicotine in the nick

I’m sure some cherished colleagues have diplomatically mild views on how best to punish criminals.

But HMGov has come up with a humdinger – taking the fags away from the 80% of inmates who smoke. What a stroke of penological genius! Let’s show genuine concern for the prison environment, not to mention the health of the minders and the minded.

Backside wonders whether most of the deprived denizens will ask for transfers to Rikers island, Bang Kwang or La Sante where they could at least nurse their bruises with a quiet drag.

Just (or unjust) thoughts

Criminal justice is a wriggling fish. You think you’ve grasped it and then it slides away into uncertainty (at least for me).

In India endemic rape and murder are being fought with the ultimate weapon, the death penalty; while in Norway mass murder is being treated with ‘civilised’ understanding, even some attempt to teach a lesson, whatever that may be.

I know the cherished hawks here will have a ready answer but I’m really not sure which ideas are the moral way.
