One of the first things tourists try to do is go to the top of the Washington Monument. On a clear day, the views from the top are stupendous.
Unfortunately, because of the earthquake in DC a couple of years ago, you cannot, but as you can see, the obelisk is under repair.

The recent sunny, but cold, weather has persuaded the grass on the front and back lawns to make a tentative effort at starting to grow. As the weather forecast says it will be getting warmer and wetter, I thought I had better make sure the mower would start.
After half an hour struggling with the pull cord, dirty plug, and gunged up fuel filter, it finally staggered into life. Just at that moment, another load of global warming started falling from the sky. Doh!
There is a report in the Telegraph today which, if it was not April 1st, I could well believe to be true, given the Fascist tendencies of this and the previous government.
It says that the Government are to appoint a “Lights Tsar” department, whose members are entitled to demand entry to your house and turn off any lights that are left on in an empty room. How I hate all present day politicians, even when they are not responsible for something!

Mrs FEEG and I have just got back from a city break in Vienna. Lots of Strudel and lots of Schnitzel, although without the noodles mentioned in that silly song in the dreadful musical about the von Trapp family, but with plenty of ErdapfelSalat or Austrian Potato Salad. (Yes I know the German for potato is Kartoffel, but the Austrians prefer to use the French way of naming them!). We also overindulged somewhat in the Café Central and the Sacher Hotel on speciality coffees and cakes!
We saw many of the sights and especially good was the Lippizaners being put through their paces at a training session and practice performance at the Spanish Riding School near the Hofburg Palace of Vienna. All in all, a great time was had by us.
Imagine our surprise when, having left Vienna on a very cold but bright sunny day, we woke up at home to another dose of global warming requiring the drive to be cleared yet again!
Whatever you think about the UK Budget, it has had the welcome effect of severely discumknockerating the watermelons!, so it cannot have been all bad!
It looks like Agnetha Faltskog a.k.a. the blond one from Abba, is making a return to the stage.
I suspect she may have featured in quite a few chaps dreams and fantasies all those years ago, and she has been very much out of the limelight for some time now.
Oh well, I suppose it is not good for someone of my age to get too overenthusiastic about such things. Anyway good luck to her!
Two windmills in the West Country have recently self-destructed by running so fast, they shed their blades and fell down. There have been suggestions that sabotage may be involved. Has Don Quixote been revived?
