I am aghast at the global shenanigans caused by one mediocre Mercan actress and her juvenile, brain dead poodle of a husband. The sooner Liz and Phil remove their titles and banish them fully from The Firm, the better. They have turned the UK’s Constitutional Monarchy into a third-rate soap opera and anyone who says so is culture cancelled by the woke brigade – poor old Piers Morgan, for example.

And another thing –

Cressida Dick, who until now I regarded as the best Metropolitan Commissioner of Police since Sir Robert Peel, has screwed up right royally by allowing her officers to act as though they were aspiring to be American thugs (so-called Police) by beating up and arresting many defenceless women on Clapham Common (a place I know well, but that’s quite another story) who were there in memory of a local girl who was recently murdered by a Metropolitan Police thug who had been serving in the Diplomatic Protection squad – that means armed – until his mates finally threw him in the clink.

They should have been supporting the lasses rather than wrestling them to the ground and handcuffing them.

O tempora, o mores!

Just in case this hasn’t already gone three times around the world and settled on everyone’s computer screen, Governor Andrew Cuomo of the State of New York is under attack for “sexual harassment.” The last time I looked, five women had come forward to make such claims, and I have no doubt that, as such things usually go, that number will continue to grow. Also, just in case another posting from me doesn’t cause you Charioteers to skip over this, I’ll throw in a couple of comments:

The veracity of all such claims is questionable. Ideas can be implanted, either by others or by oneself. I once had occasion to witness this at first hand in a case involving a young female and had some rather harsh words with the “analyst” involved, with the result that, knowing he was “rumbled,” he immediately discontinued this approach. Some women have been known to fabricate such stories deliberately, perhaps in hope of gaining fame and/or fortune from their publication.

Reading Nice Matin this morning I discovered that all this “woke” nonsense has spread to France.

A large crowd, about ten or so, gathered in Antibes to rename one of the streets in the town centre in honour of International Women’s Day.

At the corner of two streets, avenue Pasteur and avenue Thiers, they are trying to hang up a bit of paper inscribed Louise Michel. How pathetic! despite having lived in Antibes for more than eight years, I have no idea who Louise is. If these characters wanted to replace Pasteur with a female, what’s wrong with Marie Curie, another internationally renowned scientist.

Adolphe Thiers was a French statesman who helped to bring down the Bourbon monarchy, taking part in both the 1830 and 1848 revolutions. He finally became the first president of the Third French Republic. But of course he wasn’t a woman. Want a well known female politician? Why not Simone Weill, survivor of the concentration camps (Ravensbruck, I think) who went on to become a government minister.

For some reason Nice Matin does not want me to reproduce the photograph of this bunch of anoraks and it’s not a great photo anyway.

I feel guilty about International Womens’ Day since I took our female kitten, age five months, to the vet to be spayed this morning. Have I betrayed the sisterhood?

This is quite a satisfying time for people like me who enjoy seeing come-uppances delivered.

Obviously I am most interested in Sturgeon and her SNP bullies. It appears that she may be required to resign, although she’ll probably have to be dragged kicking and screaming to her desk to write her letter of resignation. It is amazing that she has been allowed to get away with allowing Scotland to deteriorate so badly while concentrating on her deluded dream of independence and becoming a member of the EU. It has been obvious for some time that Sturgeon’s ambition is all based on herself, with her desire to become a more internationally recognised leader. Remember all those visits to the EU where only Juncker the drunkard received her, despite her efforts? If she goes – and I still think it might be if and not when – I think Boris ought to get a team of forensic accountants in to check where all the Covid-19 money from the UK went. I suspect it’s in the SNP’s coffers, ready for a massive push for independence. I am not convinced that the cash was spent for the benefit of the people of Scotland. Admittedly there are now so many factions in Scottish politics that it is hard to be sure. One thing is sure, however, is that the price of oil is no longer at $100 a barrel, though that was Salmond’s delusion to begin with. And now Shetland, which still seems to have oil around, does not wish to have anything to do with mainland Scotland. Orkney and the Western Isles may follow suit.

The other come-uppance I am looking forward to is that of Duchess Straggly Hair. It now appears that some facts may be emerging from the servants’ halls of various royal residences, none of them complimentary to Markle. I look forward to learning the full story of the tea throwing in Australia. As one commenter said, Markle hasn’t threatened to sue anyone over it, so it may well be true. Like Sturgeon, Markle wants to go her own way, imposing her own will on all and sundry. It amazes me that as an actress who must have been used to taking direction she was incapable of following royal protocol and taking advice. Both Sturgeon and Markle also seem incapable of speaking the truth at all times and their husbands seem to be afflicted with the same disease and equally uncomfortable in front of the cameras. Reading from script boards is not easy.

We shall see what transpires.

Strange times indeed. Past two mornings I’ve been drinking tea out of my Union Jack (it was bought on a boat) mug; I’ve been rooting for “us”. Finds out not long ago, “we” won a Calcutta cup. This is nothing to do with haircuts, is it?

The Chariot has been happily trundling along for many years, and within its own limited objectives has been reasonably successful. We’ve lost a few Charioteers to time’s fell hand, all of whom are greatly missed, and the odd one or two miscreants have been forcibly removed, to the relief of all.

It would appear that some of the Chariot’s guidelines have become dimmed in our collective minds of late, so for a refresher, why not read the paragraphs on the About page covering Moderation and Authors? It won’t take long, the link is just up there on the right.

And then, perhaps, have a squiz at FAQs -> Who can do what? -> Authors which adds some explanatory details for the forgetful.

In summary,

• each Charioteer owns his/her own posts and all the comments therein
• asserting that an idea or concept or fact is stupid, illogical or fallacious is fine
• asserting that a Charioteer is stupid . . . is definitely not acceptable

He is absolutely right. And so I hope that he will understand that I am writing as someone who has lived in two countries that are not in the U.S.A – but are independent, democratic countries who elect their own Prime Ministers to do the bidding of their electorates.

I’m not altogether sure why I’m doing this but somehow feel that, on behalf of my nation, I ought to offer apologies to the rest of the world for yesterday’s disgraceful behavior in our nation’s capitol. I fear that such antics do after all reflect who we are – what we have become – rather than who we used to be. They’ve made us, the land of my birth, the laughingstock of many if not most other nations.

Some of those involved may vainly grope for excuses and may cite infringement upon personal liberty by things like Coronavirus lockdowns, mandatory wearing of masks, etc.. Such things do not wash with me.

At least the FBI are doing their job and are hoovering up all film, video and airline passenger lists that may lead to more arrests. As of this moment, they’ve already nabbed 52 people, more than I’ve seen arrested in any civil unrest before now. It’s also worth noting that, in two weeks, we’ll have a new President and a whole new Government who, hopefully, will bend their efforts to putting this sort of nonsense to bed once and for all.

Again, I apologize to all for any irritation, anger or whatever caused by this humiliating lapse within the United States of America by my fellow citizens.

This morning I received a message from an acquaintance, a woman in her 70s who grew up between Britain and Hunland. She asked me for my opinion on Adolfina Honecker’s, I mean, Angela Merkel’s, China deal. Having been distracted with other things recently, I hadn’t heard about it. (Funny how real life and work tend to get in the way of things) I took a Captain Cook and was amused.

Amused. Yes, I was amused. The EU will now increasingly become reliant on China. Had this been 20 years ago, I would have been more forgiving. Even 10 years ago one could have been relatively forgiving. After all, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao followed Deng Xiaoping’s maxim that China’s initials “PRC” should serve as an acronym for its foreign policy: please remain calm. Under Deng and his hand-picked successors, China sought to position itself as a stable, doveish but assertive alternative to an often histrionic United States. As the 1990s came to a close and the USA engaged in a catastrophic series of wars and foreign policy blunders after 9/11, Deng’s call bore fruit.
