‘Red sky at night, shepherds’ delight’. This was last night’s sky from the back of our house.
And for once the old adage seems to have truth in it. A beautiful morning this morning.

Barcoded
This week’s photochallenge set by the chaps at WordPress, asks for numbers.
Looking about for ideas I thought of barcodes (an optical, machine readable representation of data, doncha know) and found many examples just by unpacking the shopping.
“The very first scanning of the now ubiquitous Universal Product Code (UPC) barcode was on a pack of Wrigley Company chewing gum in June 1974.” (Wiki, I thank you) Continue reading “Barcoded”

Squirrels are simply rats with an appealingly fluffy tail. Discuss.
From this window
one can watch the bird feeder. Continue reading “Room with a view”
The 10th Photo Competition
Rollin’ rollin’ rollin’, keep those cheeses rolling…
It wasn’t supposed to take place at all this year but the great Brockworth tradition of rolling a cheese down a 1 in 2 hill and then running after it, survives.
It survives the massive over-hyping of it and the visiting crowds from all over the country and abroad that caused such chaos in 2009 that it’s whole existence was called into question. Continue reading “Rollin’ rollin’ rollin’, keep those cheeses rolling…”
No such thing as a free lunch?
“Two free tickets for Chelsea flower show, with two supplementary tickets – each for a free glass of champagne from the champagne tents. Friday. Anyone like them?” said NB (New Boy), “I can’t use them.”
This question was raised at the start of my Monday writing class. No one else put their hand up.
“I’d be interested,” I said, “but I’m working that day.”
A few phone calls later (after class) and I had swapped my usual Friday for Thursday, phoned NB and said ‘yes please’ to the tickets, and rung my friend to see if she could come with me.
My friend, Rose, a gardener, had to swap work commitments around, but by Monday evening our trip was arranged.
On Friday morning we set off a 6am: Rose drove her yellow peril car and I provided navigation with the help of Tom Tom. Thursday had been a day of sudden downpours amongst wind and grey cloud, but Friday was better… still a little windy, but no rain and only white cloud, with the occasional outbreak of temporary sunshine. Marvellous. Though a little chilly.

What on Earth is it?
Eighth photo comp. – results

I’m absolutely delighted that I was able to extend the deadline for the 8th competition by a couple of days, we attracted a couple of additional entries which of course doesn’t make the job of judging any easier. I was of course saddened that a particular cameraless member (their own words) wasn’t able to beg, steal or borrow one and contribute, perhaps next time.
In essence, I selected a theme (wild) which was open to many interpretations and the Charioteers didn’t disappoint.
I’m no photography critic and won’t be going into the merits of each entry, I did enjoy Jahn’s pink dolphin, I’ve written elsewhere about our efforts to prevent dolphin captures down here and the keeping of them in captivity.
LW’s wisteria is a beaut, I’m no gardener but I did enjoy the old house, swing chair and of course the subject, thanks LW.
For pure impact, colour and in your face photography I have to award this months prize to OZ, his wild boar has all the attributes that I was looking for. A great pic OZ, thanks, over to you for number 9!
Watery Paradise II
Those noises were very spooky. It’s not as if you don’t hear noise underwater. I’ve heard boat engines, outboards, jetskis, pedaloes, people noises and the sound of rain on the surface of the ocean, but never this weird, unearthly kind of calling.
Sometimes a lower pitch moan seemed to be “answered” by a higher pitch whine, mixed with other more faint noises which were difficult to discern. Continue reading “Watery Paradise II”
