Wind farms – crazy!

We briefly touched on this debate a while ago when I confessed to not knowing much about it apart from liking the idea in principle. Several enlightened charioteers guided me gently into the font of knowledge and as such I have been looking out for similar stuff in my occasional BBC dippings.

Found this yesterday…..BBC LINK…. what a mad world we live in! Can’t even blame the government for this one!

Meanwhile I saw an interesting episode of “Coast” last week where they went to a natural gas field processing plant in Norway where up to 30% of the Uk’s gas is supplied, but only for the next 40 years before it runs out. It seem the Norwegians don’t need any of it because they have so much hydro-electric power. Good on them I say, but why doesn’t the UK use it too?

Mrs C, who always has a slightly different view of the world as she hates all politics with small p and capital P said – can’t we just lower the amount of electricity we use and find more efficient ways of using it?

Well, probably, but not in the Highlands it seems!

I do tend to turn off things when not using them, but to save me cash not to save the planet! But I do frown heavily and disapprove of stupid things, and this story struck me as a classic example of stupidity!

Author’s note: I am neither pro or anti wind farms, have no agenda nor mean to cause any offence with this blog. I am not a AGW activist, I am not trying to provoke or influence!

The Ballad of Brave Monty Mouse: The Flood

It rained and rained, and in the nest,
They shook their duvets sadly.
The damp was dire, and all were stressed;
The mice were faring badly.

Hips, haws, and berries for their needs
Were in the grain store dank.
‘Twas also full of mildewed seeds,
Monty’s spirits sank.

North South Divide

‘Ne’er cast a clout til May be out’…I could explain the origin of this little phrase, but it is done so well here that I shall let you click on the link.

Needless to say I have been casting clouts on and off during March and April. On Saturday in our little piece of Oxfordshire the car thermometer read 27.5 c as we set off up North. Exceptionally warm for April. When packing the Easter Eggs  Bunnies I had to put them in a cool box to keep them intact on the journey.
On Friday night I had done that thing which usually induces the rain to fall shortly afterwards…. I had watered the garden. As we travelled I heard on the radio there had been some sudden heavy showers over the South of the UK.  Oxfordshire seems to fall into that part of the country which is sometimes the South and sometimes the Midlands. So,  had it rained on my garden….? I would have to wait and see. Continue reading “North South Divide”

Cold Comfort

I’m not entirely sure if I should indentify with Flora or Aunt Ada Doom these last few days.

No time for the computer, much too sedentary an occupation for the mini ice-age which descended unexpectedly just before the weekend.

Major central heating failure; so the best hope for survival was Movement! Dashing about, cleaning, journeys in the car; almost anything but sitting still at my desk.

I did feel just a little isolated but the house looks much cleaner. Oddly, I now cannot settle, and it feels treacherously decadent to wake up to a warm house. Perhaps we are really rather spoilt.

Feeling Christmassy now

So, I’m feeling a lot more Christmassy now. This is about right less than two weeks before. I’m counting the days. It’s going to be a traditional family Christmas, maybe the last one for a while where we can all get together on the day.

The festive feelings all started with an office Christmas bash. Continue reading “Feeling Christmassy now”

Wheelie’s the name (His latest flame)

Vandalism takes many forms and it can change from generation to generation. Writing on walls and smashing windows was always considered a laugh for the youth that was wasted on the young. Dropping litter and spitting with Spit the dog abandon transformed into the setting off of fire hydrants and “bricking” the incoming firemen/women who arrived on the scene.
