Another Emmy prediction

Previously on the Chariot.

My Emmy award predictions have came up trumps.
I don’t want to drag up old links as who needs the aggravation of cutting and pasting but they are in the archives. Once more I am prepared to put my head on the block, put a noose round my neck, take the pin out a grenade, sit on a chair that’s electric (OK, we get the picture) and select a future award winner. I predict that James Spader from The Blacklist will win in the best actor category. (The first season of The Blacklist is currently being repeated on Sky Atlantic in the UK. For your information)

The Charioteer in the clown’s house was right

A bunch of us held a gathering at the local McDonald’s where a wide range of topics was discussed. After we had exhausted the serious issues of our time -and polished off a burger or six- we started to talk about television shows and the Emmy awards. I was congratulated on predicting two of the winners long before the short list was announced. Furthermore, these were my only two predictions and both long shots; every man and his dog could have picked Breaking Bad.

One of the members asked if I had insider knowledge. I said I was not at liberty to answer that. A few extra McFlurries were used as a bribe but I stuck to my guns and kept schtum. They’re now convinced I’m in the screenwriter’s guild because I didn’t break the unwritten code of conduct and spill the ketchup, I mean beans.

Emmy award prediction

Politics is not my usual fare though I have enjoyed Sky Atlantic’s, in association with HBO, TV series The Newsroom (one episode from the first season still to be shown in the UK).

Created by Aaron Sorkin of West Wing fame, the show deals with the behind the scenes and on-screen actions at a cable news broadcaster. Based around real news events such as the killing of Osama Bin Laden or the explicit text messages of Anthony Weiner, the episodes have enthralled me.

While some of the acting falls on occasion the dialogue in the programme is first rate; it’s quick, it’s quirky, dynamic, funny, it sounds real. The headliner is Jeff Daniels who plays the anchor of the news station. Dumb and Dumber is one of my favourite films and in it Jeff plays it for laughs with a brilliant performance. Here, his acting is outstanding and shows his versatility as he plays it grumpy with sardonic quips along the way. When asked why he won’t do interviews for the tabloids, he says “They use too many exclamation marks. When I say “I like the news” they print “I like the news!”

Jeff is my prediction for Emmy glory as best actor.
