June 1 Poetry Competition. The Winner

Sorry for the delay, I have been off voyaging for the last week or so and have been a little preoccupied with the weather and the state of the tide, just got back in late last night.

Poetry

I liked all three entries, FEEG’s summer was like many I have  enjoyed here and in the UK, as long as there is food and beer what is a little rain (or even a lot).

It was close run thing between Ara (Maud/Eff) and Janus.   Maud in the garden was also a memory of uncertain summer days in the UK and Maud reminded me of those terrible operatic music sessions that the Beeb used to put out on Sundays.

But this time I will deliver the chalice to Janus whose youthful  summer memories were perfectly crafted (as always) and spot on theme.

So Janus what’s next?  In praise of a recent Royal Occasion or something similar perhaps?

Photo Competition #26 – The Winner

Five good entries, Pseu’s Rhubarb did appeal to my artistic sense despite my general distaste for the plant in all its forms.

But I must confess to a soft spot for Honeysuckle, I have a couple of vines growing about the place and the bees love it, I do have to take the axe to it occasionally as it certainly does GROW, and it smells wonderful on a Summers day.

So the prize goes to  Araminta, congratulations and set us a new good one please.

Unnatural Selection

I was in the supermarket the other day buying toothpaste, it’s not something I do very often, it’s not that I don’t use much, I probably would consider myself an average user, but toothpaste is one of those things that is always there. The tube can always be found, even on the bleariest of mornings waiting on its shelf, and when it gets to the point where mechanical devices are needed to extract the last helping, another fresh tube can be found in the second drawer down. Toothpaste is clearly the responsibility of someone else, someone organized, in this household it falls in the same category as clean laundry, some is always available when needed.

May Poetry Competition – Summertime

It’s easy this time, just a theme,
any length or rhyming scheme.
Even Janus with x-a, y-a
will have his chance to claim the day

It’s early here to call it Summer
and very late for it down unn’er.
But I’m the judge and that’s the rule
and lots of  entries would be cool.

Let loose the polymetric muse
all honest poets to confuse
but get your entry in real soon
the closing date’s the first of June.

A very short story for Bilby (May 9, short story comp)

Worlds Apart

Zorb of Klig was late…..again.   Billa of Arachnia his wife of ten years on this day was losing what little of her patience that remained.  Zorb was a three-eared, odd-tentacled cephalopod and Billa was an even-footed arachnid as were all of her species but all of this we have heard before.

The War of 1812

The nation plans to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, it seems that it has become a cause and has acquired the flavour of significance.

Apart from a couple of good songs and a pretty good flag I don’t see it.

This is my contribution to Mr. Mackie’s Poem contest and I shall post a link there.

Photo Competition #26, theme “Growing”.

It’s spring here and stuff is growing, the grass needs cutting and the asparagus needs eating.  In the southern hemisphere it must be getting near harvest time and those of us lucky enough to live between the tropic lines it is almost always growing season.  so without further preamble, the theme for this months comp. is GROWING.  That can mean garden vegetables, crops, flowers, shrubs or pets livestock or children.  Lots of scope there for a rich crop of entries, right?  Closing?  Lets make it midnight GMT May 22 ,  that’s also my 68th birthday, so judging maybe a little bit delayed the next day.
