A very Happy New Year, whether you have only just entered 2013, or it is nearly January 2nd!

Papa’s got a brand new bag
Well, actually, it’s a brand new toy for Christmas. A Chromebook.
For those who do not know, a Chromebook is a simple netbook type computer based on the Google Chrome browser, where all the apps are on the network. This means they are all up to date all the tine and as the system does not need so much power it is quite cheap. It also means that the system is ready for use about 5 seconds after switching on, but unlike a tablet, it has a proper keyboard.
It promises to be fun. We shall see.
Just to keep you guys up to date

Winter weather
So far this December, in the deep south-east of England, apart from a few snow flurries a week ago, we have had mainly sunny days and frosty nights in these here parts. In fact, it is a beautiful sunny day as I type. I wonder how long it will be before the water companies are bleating about drought and hosepipe bans!
Judgement day. Photo comp.
This is very difficult. There have been some superb pictures submitted, all much better than my humble example.
Pseu: Beautifully coloured leaf. A wonderful picture.
Low Wattage: More dickie birds from LW, but what a great picture.
Ara: Trees and bushes on the turn. Very nice
OZ: Evergreen autumn. Fascinating.
Plus a few moans from our Antipodean and Southern Hemisphere cousins that it ain’t autumn there! 🙂
Anyway, after the consumption of much post-lunch brain juice and much pondering, I think that the subject matter and great colouring of LW’s Geese at Dusk photo just shades it. (And this time, it is in focus!)
Over to you, Sirrah!
Just a quick reminder to all budding photographers
Having just got back from a trip to see son and daughter-in-law in the good ol’ US of A for Thanksgiving celebrations, courtesy of Tricky Dicky’s nice new Airbuses, I would just like to remind you that December the 1st is rapidly approaching.
This means the deadline of the latest photo comp is coming up. There are already some really good ones, but don’t let that stop you from submitting your masterpiece!
One for the nerds amongst us……
Q: Why is Halloween the same as Christmas?
A: Because Oct 31 = Dec 25!
Boom, boom!
Just to get the ball rolling in the November Pome Comp
Dear Guido Fawkes, please do us a favour
Give us all something that we can savour.
Come back from the dead if you possibly can.
You failed last time, what now better than
You go to the Crooked House of the Dumb
And blow them all to Kingdom Come!
This is most heartfelt! 🙂
Photo comp #34 “Autumn”
I have just taken my dear old aunt to the dentist, and while driving her there, the autumn was very apparent. So, while it seems a trifle trite, the subject for the next comp is “Autumn”. This can be any aspect of Autumn from Halloween to Guy Fawkes or the (in our case, non-existent) apple harvest, or anything you think is representative of the autumnal season!
Deadline will be midnight on 1st December, as we should have returned from our Thanksgiving visit to Washington DC by then (hurricanes willing!)
Here is something to get you going, our Forsythia on the turn:-

If the Italians can do it, so can we……
News has just come out that Silvio Berlusconi has just been sentenced to 4 years in jail. If only we could do the same thing to one or two former UK Prime Ministers, maybe with the period multiplied by a factor of ten! (And a few of their co-conspirators too!).
Berlusconi was only found guilty of tax fraud. It should really be possible to jail they there politicians for ANY kind of fraud. Only trouble is, the House of Commons would be pretty empty!
