I have been Sunday working today, and when I got up at 7.15 am, bleary eyed, the sun was out. I woke up properly as I had my first cuppa….
I picked this from my garden yesterday, and snapped it this morning, back-lit by the promise of a beautiful day….
by the time I left the house an hour later, I had already seen rain and above there were very heavy clouds. I remembered to check that both the raincoat and umbrella were safely in the car, just in case.
Several times today I have been very glad of the rain coat and the fact that my curly hair does its own thing, anyway, whatever.
One storm was so heavy I had to slow to 15 mph, with windscreen wipers on ‘fast’ and fog lamps on. I waited outside a patient’s house for a few moments before deciding to dash for it.
By the time I drove home several sections of road were a covered in sheets of water and I made some very impressive high sprays
(Yes, I did check first there was no-one there vulnerable to my curtain of water!)
It was still raining, though much less heavily when I took these, lying on my tummy in the open doorway of the utility (like you do) –
This is my patio. Under water.

and under the pergola, big rain drops…

Meanwhile in the front, raindrops were making bubbles in the puddles…
And now?
Well the sun’s trying to come out.
Never mind, immediately the caper in London is over I bet you’ll have about 6 weeks of brilliant weather!
Especially after the schools reopen.
I have my fingers crossed, with plans for September….
Can’t say I blame you!
I don’t like heat so would never go abroad in the summer but we had so many rained out holiday cottages etc in the UK that we used to be reduced to taking a quick holiday abroad in the week before the boy went back to school, just to check that the sun was still there! It was always a dead cheapie because private schools go back a week later than the state system and all the prices drop like a stone! I think that was the main advantage of the private system it is just a little bit off on the dates and one can slide off before or after high season prices.
I am busy wasting time here this morning in a hideous heat wave, upper 80’s. Looking at an incredibly intricate entrelac jacket I have knitted and now I have to put it together, line and interline it for the NW show.
I have promised to enter it and now wish to hell I hadn’t!!! It was a choice of vamoosing up the mountain to cool off for the day or being virtuous and finishing this project. Being virtuous was a bad choice.
Remind me to take up stained glass instead next lifetime!!!!!
🙂
What loverly photos and yes, what a mess, weather-wise.
Nothing is happening at the right time and it’s most confusing. I’m rather fed up with the lack of produce from neighbours. We have enjoyed a brief glut of broad beans, but then zilch. Very disappointing.
I really do think we need a good autumn, but I’m not holding my breath.
I’m hoping for September at least… it is my favourite month and I ave promised to take Milly away for a few days….
another grey day here and only one hedge cut so far. If it’s dry after work…. possibly 🙂
