One up on Boris….

Unbeknownst to me, Mrs FEEG had applied for some Olympic tickets. Recently we had the spectacle of Boris Johnson on TV moaning about the fact that he did not get any that he applied for personally (of course I think there is the odd freebie in the pipeline for London Councillors, but, to be fair, I think he did return a lot of these). We feel very lucky.

However, Mrs FEEG has just announced she has got two tickets for a morning session of the athletics at the Olympic Stadium. I think the events are round 1 of the Womens 100M Hurdles (goody, goody, some of the lady sprinters and hurdlers are really fit šŸ™‚ ), the Mens 800M and Discus qualifying, which is good because I used to be school champion at the discus, so I know a bit about it and the Womens 1500M round 1 and Shot Put qualifying as well.

These should be all very entertaining and none of the long drawn out long distance races which, quite frankly bore me to tears (and yes I know it is all tactical, but it is still boring). Roll on next summer!

The women in my family seem to be getting unstable.

The women in Family FEEG seem to be getting unstable. Over Easter, our dear daughter came to stay for the weekend. She had a huge scab on her knee, and a massive bruise that had just transferred from the horrible blue colour to the nasty green. Apparently, she had been on her way to an appointment with an interviewee (she is a journalist) when she tripped over in the rush hour streets of London.Ā AcutelyĀ embarrassed, she got to her feet, waved all kind offers of help away, thenĀ proceededĀ as if nothing had happened. Only later did she inspect her knee to find the true state of theĀ damage! Continue reading “The women in my family seem to be getting unstable.”

A trip to Oz: The animals

During our trip to Oz, Mrs FEEG and I took some interest in the fauna of Australia. Of course, it is well known that there are lots of nasty critters that will bite you and poison you at the drop of a hat (actually most of them are not aggressive and only bite if threatened.) and I have already talked about the penguins on the south coast. A trip to Oz: Machismo

Ten years ago, our daughter went on a trip to Oz with one of her best friends from school. It was not exactly a back-packing trip as they like their home comforts too much, but they did work hard and save up for the trip so they could be reasonably comfortable. When they got back, they said that they had had a great time, but found that Oz was a bit behind the times in terms of emancipation Basically, their report reinforced the old TV ad for Castlemaine 4X, you know the one: “Just another couple of crates and…oh yes, better add a half -bottle of sherry for the ladies!”

A trip to Oz: The planes

I have always been interested in planes, and would have applied for the RAF or a commercial pilots licence if my eyesight had been 6/6 nƩe 20/20 (when I were a lad you had to have uncorrected 20/20 vision to be a pilot, unlike now, I believe, which is annoying as my eyesight with giglamps is 20/20).

That being the case, I will mention all the different plane types we flew in on our trip to and around Oz, all with Qantas. This is a good airline, and should give BA a wakeup call. Continue reading “A trip to Oz: The planes”

A trip to Oz: Some contemplations

As promised, another post about Mrs FEEG’s and my trip to Oz recently. I do not intend to do too much of the travelogue thingy, but more things that have struck me on the trip.

It was my brother, I think, who first noted that, whenever Mrs FEEG and I went on holiday, a disaster, either man-made or natural, occurred and somebody famous died. We were in Cyprus, due to fly home the next day, when 9-11 happened, we were in Washington DC when the Bombay (we do not call Rome Roma or Munich Munchen-am-Rhein) hotel siege was in progress.

So, it was with much sadness, we heard of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami that occurred on the day we arrived in Melbourne. Continue reading “A trip to Oz: Some contemplations”
