What to get for the lady who does not want anything.

Recently, it was my dear old aunt’s 90th birthday. Naturally, the whole family wanted to have some special celebrations on this occasion, and so I asked her what she would like for her birthday (Her kids, my cousins, had already organised a party). The trouble is, she has just about everything she wants out of life and was singularly unhelpful with suggestions saying, “Oh you don’t want to bother about that”.

How true this is!

Anyone who has ever worked in the software industry will know how true all the thoughts expressed in this link are.

However, this is not quite the full story, although I am sure few of you will believe me. The really difficult bit is gathering the customer requirements (the real ones and not what the customer thinks they want), writing the specifications and design and then defining the testing regime. Writing the actual code is relatively easy, by comparison, as long as the design and specs are OK.

Oh, what a surprise – NOT (2)

Sorry to plagiarise Red Julie’s byline, but this one probably will not surprise most sensible bloggers around these here parts!

It turns out that Wavy Davy might have been spouting empty rhetoric yesterday when he said that all looters and rioters will be severely punished. It appears many of them are being let off to roam the streets and to cause more mayhem. Quelle surprise!

I suspect that if they make any more trouble, a good few of them might get (accidentally) battered, as the police and public will know they will NOT be severely punished, by the courts.
