Wavy Davy’s Navy

I saw this on the Dark Side today. Just about sums up GB 2012:

A vision of the Cameron Navy!

The Royal Navy is proud of its new fleet of Type 45 destroyers. Having initially named the first two ships HMS Daring and HMS Dauntless, the Naming Committee has, after intensive pressure from Brussels, renamed them HMS Cautious and HMS Prudence. Seen on a T shirt

I saw this slogan, or something very like it, on a T shirt recently. It seems to sum up the state of the UK and, possibly, the USA at the moment:-

Ineptocracy

(in-ep-toc’-ra-cy) – a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers. syn- socialism.

Events in Virginia

As I posted recently, we have just returned from spending some time with our son and daughter in law in DC. It appears we left just in time.

It was beginning to get hot by the time we left and yesterday they had record breaking temperatures there. This led to some huge thunderstorms in Virginia, Maryland and DC last night. This is the view from our son’s front window that he saw this morning. They are still lacking power.

Wow…

This is a picture of a SINGLE , relatively simple, molecule containing just five aromatic carbon rings. It may not mean much to you, but this molecule is called olympicene for fairly obvious reasons and it is just one billionth of a metre across.

Once, when Michael Faraday was asked by a politician, “But of what use is your electricity?”, he replied , “Why, sir, one day you will be able to tax it!”. I think the same might apply here.
