Snowdrops

??????????Still the rain falls, and the rivers rise. Floodplains flood. The weather is wet and windy.
But still the snowdrops do their thing.

No time to lose. No, time to lose. Make time to stand and stare.... Did you see that?

Have you had any snow this year? I haven’t noticed any great snow dramas in the media (trains cancelled, football matches postponed because of icy pavements etc.)

As to the floods, what a tragedy!

Those poor people in Somerset have been up to their necks in it since before Christmas! And now the Thames valley!

The view from afar is that it smacks of poor planning and an even poorer response.

Did I hear that some people are staying in their knee deep flooded homes because of a fear of looters? Shoot ’em, shoot ’em on sight, that should be the instruction to your security people, I know I would.

  2. By ‘eck, that’s a big un. Ours are huddling together in clumps at the edge of the woods, just beating the erantis to the punch as it were.

  3. G’dag, Soutie! Modern man has oeuf sur le visage and eau dans les souliers once again, having done a Canute and told the waters to recede.

The Thames barrier keeps out the sea surges but not the run-off from the hills; and draining marshes only works of the outlets can handle the flows.

Sad lessons – for home-buyers as much as for gubmints.

As for shooting looters – aren’t there any deer-hunters itching for some practice during the storms? 🙂

  4. I miss the spring flowers – in fact I miss the spring. I know we have one, but I can’t quite work out what’s that incredibly different between winter, autumn and spring here.

Ah, Jay I’m sure that there are but their long barrel hunting rifles would be of no use at all in the confines of a residential building. perhaps a shortened shot gun, but that can get rather messy!

Shooting humans is an altogether different ball game than wildlife.

I’d prefer my trusty .357 Ruger, something not too dissimilar to this…

Of course a microwave and refrigerator upstairs would be handy (assuming that the power is still connected) but not an absolute necessity 😉
