Easter and The Telegraph Pay-wall

Easter without The Telegraph?

Resurrection of some buns, and bunnies by the score?
Is this the point of Easter, or is there something more?
Yes hot cross buns may be the thing which oddly give a clue,
To why we celebrate this fest, though meanings are perdue.

A family celebration, and there’s nothing wrong with that,
Easter eggs and bunnies and a bonnet or new  hat.
We celebrate the coming spring, a resurrection too,
A hope age-old, against all odds, we start our life anew.

So how do we thus celebrate when frankly winter still
Holds us in England in its thrall,  and snow’s a bitter pill.
But cheerfully we celebrate despite the dismal chill,
Our Easter is enjoyed perchance by just an act of will.

Read the Daily Telegraph, but cheek I hear you call,
It is alas no longer free, behind its new pay-wall.

  1. Ara – timely, topical and tuneful! (In London today we had some sunshine – and tomorrow the kids in the school where I work are letting off helium balloons in the front playground in celebration of World Autism Day- 1st of April I think.

Janus I will try to squeeze out four lines. I was already working on “bonnet” Judy Garland style.

  2. Thanks for the tip, Christopher.
