The invisible man

He stands at the robots everyday
got no work, got no pay
A cardboard sign, states ‘look at my life’
four hungry children and a pregnant wife

Cars pull up, the drivers stare
read the sign, then look elsewhere
The robots change from red to green
traffic flows, was he even seen?

And on it goes throughout the day
he stands and stares in a pleading way
Did anybody help? Was he ignored?
Will he feed his hungry hoard?

And then when dusk approaches
picks up his bag, and slowly trudges
off, with shoulders bent, eyes full of sorrow
if you missed him, don’t fret, he’ll be back tomorrow.

For TR’s poetry comp

(Down here traffic lights are referred to as robots, if you need directions it would be something like, “head along Cape road turn left at the second robot over the stop street then right at the next robot etc…” ;))

‘tour de force’ isn’t that something they do in France on bikes?
