Results of Photo Competition

Nym’s asymmetrical flowers. Beautiful flowers and interesting lighting.

FEEG ‘s Apples and Nexus Cézanne recreation. Nicely done!

Bravo’s eclectic collection of  interesting objects. Vivid lively colours.

JW’s  another Cézanne, very witty collection of balls, no sorry, cherries!

LW ‘s capsicum from the garden in basket. So fresh looking.

Christopher’s  is here – not quite the image he wanted but still very pleasing. Have the rest of your belongings arrived yet?

OZ’s  poolside still life. I hope you’ve found your battery charger!

Thank you for all your entries for this competition and different interpretations of the theme. Well done,  those whose inspiration came from actual paintings.

I think there were some interesting and rather creative studies. As usual, it’s almost impossible to make a choice but I think the winner this time is LW, because  I just loved the vibrant colours, and the sheen on the vegetables.

I’ve taken the liberty of cropping your photograph LW, because it really shows the colours beautifully.

  1. Having managed to beat Eff into submission, she has indeed divulged the location of the charger. I shall be up and running for the next competition, LW’s subject matter permitting.

  2. Bilby – No, she has not lost her spells (shudder!). It’s just a question of showing her who’s Boss. Eff does as she is told eventually and, if not, there is a brief period involving fangs, claws, blood and fur and that’s just her’s. She is willing to return to Henley Towers, but she wants her own key to the West Wing with no suppression from Aunty Araminta and with me to act as her personal security advisor.

She has taken a liking to the NSW, whom she regards as a kindred spirit, and to Fumada too. We will all need rooms.

  3. LW, well done.

Ara, good evening, Definitely the right choice but I seriously dislike your crop. I think that LW’s original was far better than your hackit version thereof herein. His was a tad stretched perhaps but it was a far better composition (still-life wise) than your chopped rendition.

    In my opinion.

  4. Thank you, Mr Mackie, and good evening.

I think it was the right choice too. I played with various versions, and I’m perfectly happy with the original, but thought I’d see what the photographer and others thought about the crop, which shows the vegetables to perfection, but is not such a good “still life” composition, I agree.

  5. Well I’m really delighted with this, I had not looked to enter this one until I saw the basket of veg. on the kitchen counter and that shine on the peppers is just the way they came from the garden, almost a natural wax polish. Maybe one of our resident horticulturalists can tell me if there is such a wax on peppers, I always thought the supermarket buffed them up somehow for display.

I understand your crop Ara, as Mr Mackie said the picture was a bit disproportionate., I did look at cropping the top before entering but I thought the still life part needed some context, a vase or a bit of furniture in the background, so I left it alone. I did crop the sides as I had some bright reflections from the counter lights and as a result the picture got a bit tall and thin. Thanks again and I will give some serious thought to the next contest.

  6. Phew, thanks LW. I thought your picture was fabulous, and I was just playing with the photo, not trying to improve anything. But yes, the shine was beautifully caught, so well done!

Looking forward to the next competition. 🙂
