Horsing around – the penultimate update

One week to go!

Things are hotting up, a welcome late showing by San Francisco Kid, we still have the African stallion and Four Eyes running what appears to be neck and neck out front, with Ol’ Two Face in hot pursuit. It’s time to get those whips out.

(I have a feeling that Ol’ Two Face’s latest entry might just have put one of his noses in front, time will tell)

Wednesday am (7th March)

A fair bit of movement since the weekend, the African stallion and Four Eyes running what appears to be neck and neck out front ‘Ol Two Face is improving and there’s a strong showing by the Wegie.

Dumbo/Jumbo seems to be wandering about aimlessly at the back of the field.

We appear to be entering that lull experienced by cricketers playing one day games, overs 20-40 seem to tick along before the mad scramble at the end, I’ll keep you posted!

Sun evening

A sudden flurry of activity, the Wegie in the blue silks has put in an appearance, Jumbo (or should that be Dumbo) is languishing at the back, the Grey is a strong runner and there has been a a lot of jostling up front with riders re-positioning themselves, certainly not a one horse race this one !

Sat pm

Ol’ Two Face must have the whip out he’s drawn level with Grizz and here comes the Scots lass making a very welcome if somewhat belated appearance.

The start

And they’re off!

We’re up and running, in this the first running of The Limerick Grand National, Grizz has jumped into the lead closely followed by the African stallion and Ol’ Two Face, the Henley fillies are putting in a tremendous show and there’s Four Eyes running strongly on the inside. The American import appears to be stuck in the starter’s gate but as a previous Triple Crown winner I’m sure he’ll make good ground!

We have a couple of no shows, I’m pretty sure that they haven’t scratched, perhaps just late starters.

Stay tuned for more updates 🙂

  1. Good job I wasn’t included – probably would have caught and eaten the favourite and then the one in the lead.

    Sniff!

  2. Soutie, dear chap – I can no longer correct it for you, but if Boadicea sees your typo, she’ll go troppo! 🙄
    It’s “they’re off”

  3. France is playing Ireland again
Today in the wind and the rain
    The pitch is unfroze
    But nobody knows
Which team will end up in pain.

  4. Great gig, Soutie.

In defence of my leisurely gallop I would like it on the record that I am the only rider not using a whip. 🙂

  5. Morning all.

You may have noticed that I’ve inverted the reports, done as a service to regulars who will be able to notice updates and monitor their positions at a glance.

The ‘flow’ probably appears a bit disjointed for first time viewers (newest to oldest) but I think that it’s more practical for my (our) purposes.

  6. Sorry, Soutie, but after Scotland’s weekend of sporting disaster, I’m not sure I can manage anything. When I first checked, Scotland was leading Ireland, then … Then Andy was out in the second round at Indian Wells. My son told me Scotland is playing beautiful rugby just now, but lack a certain something. Totally depressing.

  7. Sheona I know how you feel.

All my life I’ve supported Eastern Province (rugby, cricket, football, baseball, you name it) in fact the only provincial sports jersey that I own is an EP rugby replica – glorious red and black hoops.

We’ve never won anything (except for a cricket trophy back in the ’80’s which I flew down from Jhb to watch)

We rarely make bridesmaid status, we’re forever the also rans, I can live with that 😉

I’ll have you know I am not using a whip! Cattle prod, maybe 🙂

Now for the final furlong to emphasis, yet again, my dislike of politicians, with reference to Gordon Brown’s virtual disappearance from Parliament since he lost the election:-

There was a PM called Brown
    Who was an incapable clown
    He is still an MP
    But no-one can see
If he is ever in town!
