I was given a golf cart as a birthday gift this year, the first mate decided I needed help getting around the property, the mailbox is about half a mile away at the end of the driveway and up a steep hill, it is quite a hike but not one that I make every day. The gift was greeted with a sigh and as much oh! yes and ah! perfect as I could manage on the spur so to speak. Anyway it’s a two-seater gasoline powered 1994 model and has the thing on the back where one would keep the bag of sticks if one gorfed which I of course do not, and incidentally never have excepting for one game in the full innocence of youth when convinced by my Scottish uncle James MacDonald Millar that this would be a useful skill to have in later life I attempted a round (he lied).
The stick thingy on the back is useless for anything else, too low and small for carrying stuff, so I decided to add a useful body back there. I welded it up out of scrap steel and painted it up to match the red of the cart. The cart is now a “bakkie” as Soutie would say, I had a few pieces of flooring left over so I added those on top to give it a rustic look. The Ferrari decals were $5.00 on eBay. Here’s a piccie.
I duct taped a stereo “Boom Box’ to the dash to provide some noise while about the yard and to keep the neighbors awake during the evening.
The two blocks of wood under the radio are there to allow access to the newly added headlamp switch which control the newly added headlamps.
These were necessary to enable me to make a rapid departure when my neighbors object to my choice of music in the late evening.
I noticed that the supports for the roof behind the seats made an excellent gun rack so I added a couple of velcro straps to keep the pump action in place while zooming about the property (besides irate neighbors one never knows what one may stumble on out here in the wilderness does one?)
The cart became very useful during the summer but lacked the final touch, it came to me in a flash while I was taking out the recycling one day and with a little ingenuity and a small linear actuator I now have a dump body on the cart.
Right handy when it’s time to dump the empties!
Here it is on You tube, just for the Charioteers.

Oh wow, now that’s what I call a caddy, I want to come and ride it, now. What an excellent job you’ve made of the extras, this a priceless caddy, love it.
Brilliant LW, a fine bakkie indeed!
Cool, LW 🙂
Good on yah, LW ….. just one question …
Did somebody steal the doors? 😦
🙂
(I just had to) 🙂
And what does the First Mate think of your additions?
Donald: Doors are off for the summer, almost time to think about some winter additions, Snow Plow? tire chains?
I have not yet figured out how to bypass the governor on the engine which limits speed to about 10 mph, the motor should be good for about 25-30 mph but the brakes may need a tweak.
Sheona: She is all for the tipping body, she is the gardener and is always hauling dirt and peat moss about the place, most of the empties are hers too!!!!
This looks like something my father, arguably a pure-bred redneck, would build.
LW – That there vee-hic-yule is definitely worthy of an “Eeeee hawwww”!
Still waiting for your redneck thread – or was that it?
OZ
“… most of the empties are hers too!!!!” Of course they are, LW!
Great minds, Christopher, great minds.
OZ: All for now, but I have one brewing on my “Nuclear Pig Cooker”.
Boys and their toys…
LW – Oh drool! Do hurry up. Nighty night to all.
OZ
More use than a bloody bicycle that’s for sure.
Brilliant! I want one.
Silly engineers place governors on the pedal but if you can’t find it there then chances are a smart fellah put it either on the carburetor wire (stopper) or you might need a shorter needle in the carbi body 🙂
You might find some more answers to your question here: 🙂
Donald: Thanks, It’s not in the throttle linkage and the engine will rev. high when the cart is first starting to move, then when the CVT pulleys allow the speed to increase the engine revs. drop back to a lower limit. Likewise when descending my steep hill from the mailbox the engine revs drop low (independent of throttle position) causing the cart to brake to a lower speed. There must be a link from the transmission to the Carb. somewhere that controls the rev. limit, I’ll find it.
FEEG: Looks like he’s put a VW bug engine in the back of that one, no roll bar and no seat belts, no thanks.
LW: No roll bar or seatbelt indeed, but he is a redneck 🙂
