First of all, thanks all for the kind comments. To tell the truth, the pic of the shadow of the tree on the church was an ‘accidental’ shot. You all know me and buildings 🙂 I was shooting pics of the church and discarded this one from the ‘church’ shots because the shadow of the tree distracts a little from the image of the church I was trying to get. I kept it because, despite not being a shot of the church I liked, I did like the actual composition, and when the subject of the competition came along…
I like dogs. I don’t have one of my own because I travel so much and usually live in flats – I don’t think that flats are the right environment or dogs, they need space. That’s why I have a cat, pop her in her travel bag and she goes anywhere. Mind, I do like cats too. You don’t own a cat in the same way that you can own a dog, they’re much too bloody-minded and independent. I always call my cat my owner because that’s how, I’m sure, she sees me 😀
So, the subject of the next competition is ‘Cat!’ (Note the exclamation mark 🙂 )
Entries please by midnight UK time on the 8th Ocotber. (Extra week because I’m probably going to be travelling in the last week of September.)
Creative heads on!
Howzit Bravo.
I’ll get the ball rolling, if I drove around from now ’till the closing date I doubt if I could improve on this, I will keep an eye out but for now …
Lovely Soutie
OK, I don’t have a cat, with or without an exclamation mark, but I may see a few lurking in the neighbourhood,
Probably not as big as those Soutie captured on his camera, but I’ll go hunting! 🙂
PS. Do you really take your owner on all your trips? Does she fly with you, and what do you do with her when you are staying in hotels?
Refer-bloody-ree!! S’not fair! We don’t all have game reserves at the bottom of our gardens like wot Soutie does.
OZ
Great start, Soutie.
I don’t take my owner with me on the short trips, Araminta, but she insists on accompanying me for the longer engagements. The tribe has convinced the airlines that cats are not ‘animals’ to be consigned to the hold with the hoi polloi of the animal world, so she travels in the cabin with me – I give her a gentle sedative so that she doesn’t annoy the other passengers, though I find that a cat in a bag is very often a good ice-breaker with the fairer half of the world, especially as my owner is a friendly, affectionate sort 🙂
Most hotels are fine with cats also, as long as you give them notice so that they can provide for her ablutions. My owner has also trained me to walk her on a lead, so that I don’t get lost since her homing instinct is better than mine, and this is also a very handy conversation opener. This was necessary in Moscow. There was a very nice green strip down the centre of Gogolevsky Boulevard, but to reach it, of course, you had to brave the traffic, which can be a life- threatening event in those parts!
She’s not with me in Kazakhstan as she is a very happy cat in the village in Cyprus, and this is a fairly short engagement. I’m also in two minds about moving her to London with me since she has become so accustomed to village life with its huntin,’ shootin,’ and fishin,’ though in her case its huntin,’ huntin,’ and huntin.’ Rats, mice, birds, voles, grasshoppers, snakes – you name it, she’ll kill it and bring it home.
She also enjoys teasing my ex’s yappy little dog. The dog is usually kept on a roaming leash and my owner knows to the thou’ exactly how long the leash is and will sit at the very extremity of the perimeter eye-balling the dog… When the dog is off the leash, she will trail her tail past the dog’s nose to get it to chase her, then climb somewhere high and sit there looking down at the frustrated animal with that supercilious smirk. I have seen the dog corner her a couple of times. No problem. She just sits down, springs her claws into view then sits there, breathing on them and polishing them on her chest 😀
Bravo, the lead saves you the embarrassment of asking if anybody’s seen your pussy lately. 🙂
Bravo, I think we need a photo of this feline…. please add one forthwith
Here you go Bravo,
These cool Spanish cats learn at an early age, that only tourists stay out in the noonday sun. Everyone else in Spain has a siesta.
Your wish is my command 🙂
This is her, ‘What you talkin’ about, fool!’ look. (For those who remember ‘The A TEam.’ 🙂 )
This is her telling me it’s time to stop studying and get her supper ready.
And this is her favourite position – she’s usually draped around my shoulders when we’re in the house, don’t know how she can sleep like that, but she manages 🙂
OK, messed that up royally… 😦 Trying to do three different things at once.
OK. fixed.
Hi Bravo.
Many thanks for the travelling cat information. I’m fairly used to the idea of cats on leads. I have some friends who moved around every few years and took their two cats to live in various parts of the world.
They spent two years in the US, I can’t remember which state, but it may have been Wisconsin, the cats were not allowed out unless they were on leads.
Nice looking cat! 🙂
Love that second photo
My cat, who is no longer with us, as of yesterday. Photo taken 2010
So sorry about your beautiful cat, Nym. 😦
That’s sad, Pseu. Thanks for sharing his photo. 😥
Thanks. Strange without him.
Just checked in – so sorry to hear about your cat, Pseu.
Pseu 😦
Cleo with her toy, she played with it for hours.
Oh dear, Bravo.
Well today is the day, and I have failed miserably. I’ve carted my camera around since you set this competition but to no avail. Loads of dogs around here, but the few cats I know exist have been very elusive.
So, this is the best I can do!
Me too, Araminta

But but, you have cats, I don’t! 😦
I have one cat photo, which is really really boring. Sorry, Bravo. 😦
Sigh! Oh, Ok then, here’s one of Das Fürballen.
OZ
Ah, aren’t they lovely? 🙂
A charming pic, OZ. Love the contrasting colours, textures and the elegance of the sitters. What are they actually sitting on?
They are brother and sister and are reclining on an armchair in the lounge on which is an old fleece to keep the hairs off the cushions.
OZ
Ah, thank you OZ. I can see now that it’s a fleece.
No 25: Is that a hug or a stranglehold?
That is Fogo being protective towards his little sister although they often curl up like that, particularly on cold winter evenings. They remind me sometimes of that ying-yang symbol.
