10th Poetry Competition

Where are you, Poets, that a Hero dies
Unsung? He who, when Duty brought too soon
His billet of rest toiled on till he had won
The countersign of Glory?

A plea for pomes!

Alliteration in poetry can be very effective, and overdone can be amusing. Any form will do, but a minimum of eight lines please. The theme is gem stones or precious metals but please include some awesome alliteration!

  1. Okay, here’s my pitiful offering:

    Dangerous diamonds die dreamily,
    Rubies rudely rubbish ruddy wretches,
    Emeralds eminent eminence,
    So stunning sapphires sing.
    Dragons dream of diamonds daily,
    Diamond’s don’t die drearily,
    Crystals crimp and cry,
    But diamonds never die.

I was going for the most awkward.

  2. Well, the deadline has passed and there seems little point in declaring you the winner, Christopher, although you did bother to post an entry.

    Much appreciated.

I suggest that we just admit defeat and perhaps try again in the Autumn.
Creative writers are a bit thin on the ground, sadly.

  3. Yes, I do think sitting at the PC seems more attractive when the evenings grow dark and Winter approaches, Boadicea.

  4. Apologies, apologies!

How thick can I be https://i0.wp.com/planetsmilies.net/confused-smiley-17433.gif

I have an entry perhaps 80% complete, I honestly thought the deadline was the 30th https://i0.wp.com/planetsmilies.net/confused-smiley-17425.gif

Even so, having only 2 entries is no great turnout 😦

    Autumn it is then.

Perhaps I’ll finish my effort and publish on the 30th anyway, some members may well feel like a laugh by then 🙂
