It rained and rained, and in the nest,
They shook their duvets sadly.
The damp was dire, and all were stressed;
The mice were faring badly.
Hips, haws, and berries for their needs
Were in the grain store dank.
‘Twas also full of mildewed seeds,
Monty’s spirits sank.
The river turning to a lake,
Made moving soon a must.
But where to go, and what to take
And whose advice to trust?
Our hero went to take a look,
The water swished and roared.
Just days before a gentle brook,
But now the torrent poured.
Monty yelled “get out of here,
Otherwise we’re dead.
For goodness sake, just leave the beer”,
And off Brave Monty sped.
They all reacted out of fear;
They galloped: raced and fled.
The danger now was all too clear
No time to think ahead.
Whiskers twitching, all a’quiver,
Monty counted heads.
They all surveyed the swollen river,
Longing for their beds.
All safe, save Mekka and his wife,
They missed the trouble brewing.
For excess praying caused their strife,
Though sloth was their undoing.
But then forsooth, and fancy that!
Still facing east, past fear.
A prayer mat came floating by
And on it all the beer!
Cheers!
For those who are unfamiliar with the adventures of Brave Monty Mouse, the last episode can be found here.
If you are really really interested then follow this link, and more dreadful pomes can be read.
Thank you, Boadicea and Bearsy.
It’s one I wrote ages ago for one of the poetry competitions.
Unfortunately I’d just finished the last stanza when the floods hit Queensland, so I shelved it!
You could have changed Monty the Mouse to Wilbur the Wombat – apparently they fared pretty badly in the flooding… 🙂
Whilst I am sorry for the human loss of life and damage, I do spare a thought for the wildlife in these disasters.
Wilbur the Wombat, now there’s a thought, Boadicea. 🙂
Morning Ara, when I first saw this I thought that it might be an entry for the photo competition (only 2 days to go!)
😉
Morning Soutie.
Agh, I haven’t managed to capture anything wild on my camera yet.
I see what you mean about this photo though. It’s a bit of a cheat, I’m afraid. The background is all my own work but I dropped the poor mouse on log into the middle.
You can probably see that it is very inexpertly Photoshopped!
Many thanks to Nym, OZ, and Christopher too. 🙂
