BBC radio three

BBC Radio Three on iplayer – available unfortunately only in the UK
Within the past few weeks Radio Three has become available on the Web on the BBC iplayer at about twice the quality of Digital Radio – absolutely crystal clear. Sadly for some reason they haven’t explained, it is available only within the UK. I don’t know if it is a copyright or technical issue…

Just tried your link and it works here in Oz. We can’t get any of the TV programs, but I have no problem with any of the radio stations.

  2. Great, Boa! I thought at first you may have inveigled your way on to it via my membership, but it seems you have been able to pick up the radio side of it for some time. They had announced a few weeks ago that they would be broadcasting on the Web in near perfect high fidelity sound. I don’t understand the technical aspects, but apprantly way ahead of what’s available on digital radio here.

  3. Hi CWJ

    It’s playing for me too.

Even has my times on it, currently says “The Genius of Mozart…” and then “9.30pm – 11.20pm”
(we’re 2 hours ahead of GMT)

  4. Val, we do have Sky but I believe the clearest transmission for BBC 3 (only) is now through the BBC iplayer. I will need to google it if you need chapter and verse, but it was covered within the last few weeks in the DT I think.

  5. Val, I am not a sound techie but found this for you:
“BBC Radio 3 will be available in high definition, a higher quality audio feed, via its website, from December onwards. HD Sound will be broadcast at 320 kilobits per second, which is almost twice the quality of sound offered by DAB.
Other special events from different radio stations, such as BBC Radio 2’s Electric Proms, will also be broadcast in HD online, later this month.
Roger Wright, controller of Radio 3 and director of BBC Proms, said: “Online listeners to Radio 3 were able to enjoy the final week of this year’s BBC Proms in extra high quality audio and I’m thrilled that we can now offer this streaming permanently across our full schedule.”
I understand that 320kbps is twice the quality of Digital…

  6. Hi CWJ, listening right now to Radio 3 ‘Genius of Mozart’. FYI, there appears to be a bit of a technical glitch back at the Beeb. The sound is wonderful except when the announcer speaks. There is an echo which makes it somewhat difficult to hear what he is saying.
