Glorious Technicolour

Life has been a bit grim/hectic/headless chicken territory of late.

First I never did get over the flu thing I had in January necessitating endless visits to my pulmonologist .  Second, my friend with whom I share a plot in the community garden has tottered off with melonoma leaving me with a double work load. Third spousal unit has had a bit of a run in with his health too.  (We really should have sold this place last year, far too big and far too much work and retired to our ‘pocket handkerchief’ in town!)  But here we still are, the jungle is flowering big time!

Flights of fancy

Cameron and Clegg are on a plane journey, when Cameron says

“You know, I could throw £1000 note out the widow rght now, and make someone very happy”

“Ah ha” says Cleggie “I could throw ten £100 notes out of the window right now and make ten people very happy”

Pilot turns to the co-pilot and says

“We could throw the two of them out the window right now and make thirty million people very happy”

Splendid bit of aggro going on in Brazil.I

Splendid bit of aggro going on in Brazil.

I really don’t blame the Brazilians, who have notoriously poor public services, protesting vigorously against the use of their funds for the ludicrous aggrandisement of a few sports fans.  Plus all the associated graft, corruption and backhanders to officials.

I have never been able to understand why public money in any country should be wasted on providing stadia for exceptionally rich football clubs to make further profits.  Any outfit that can afford to pay their moronic employees millions per year can afford the grounds should they want to.  Why the public should subsidise any voluntary activity is beyond me.  I include the Arts, Opera, Olympics etc.  Those that want them should pay for them, not the rest of us!  I’ll add other people’s brats to that list too!

With any luck all these events will be cancelled in Brazil.  It is a great pity the UK didn’t respond likewise to the Olympics last year and save the country a great deal of wasted money.  It is high time, if these events are wanted, that the moving and shaking officers located permanent arenas world wide and shared out sufficient contributions to the relevant participants to maintain such, rather than sucking at the public teat.

And send the bloody Olympics back to Greece with sufficient funding to keep it there forever. Think of the backhanders that will no longer have to be paid.

Well done the Brazilians.

PS I derive a degree of sardonic amusement re the current disintegration of the NHS and that appalling mawkish nonsense in the Olympic self stimulating mish-mash last year showing ‘tender angels of mercy ministrating to the sick’.  More likely bumping them off any which way they can!!! i remember many here actively defending the NHS, I wonder if they are still quite so insouciant and trusting in their attitudes to the NHS?  Had the money wasted on the Olympics been spent in the hospitals instead I doubt things would have come to quite such a pretty pass.

Oh, if only for a good revolution, any revolution, the UK sorely needs it. Never seen such a mess made in all my life.

Habemus Papam . . .

Well the new guy in Rome must be OK as he is going down like a lead balloon with the Grauniad!  They have lost no time at all hitching him to the Junta, how utterly predictable.

I can imagine his reception will be lukewarm in the UK all round with the Falklands scenario too, or the Malvinas as he would have it.

Interesting, the first Jesuit ever, so aesthetic personally, intellectually and doctrinally right wing and socially left wing. A curious mixture.  So that will shake the roots of the queer cabal running the Vatican, wonder if that is one of the reasons they gave it to him quite so fast?  Only two days to give it to a New World Jesuit?  Strikes me they wanted that job off their hands PDQ!

From what I have read, as a person, he really does remind me of Chavez (the dead Venezuelan), if that is so, that will set the cat amongst the pigeons to see personal austerity at the Vatican and the curtailment of perks for Cardinals and big wigs.

I wish him well, he has a hard row to hoe to clean out such extensive Augean stables!

Only My Opinion

I’ve been hoping that someone else would post on the ‘Great Australian Media Hoax’. But since no one has – I’m going to stick my neck out …

As I am sure most here are aware – two young Australian radio presenters phoned the King Edward VII hospital pretending to be the Queen and Prince Charles. The call was put through. The nurse who put the call through has, allegedly, committed suicide and the two young people have been accused of causing that death. Continue reading “Only My Opinion”

Weather or not

Sorry to be so utterly mundane but I just have to remark on the bizarre weather here.  Ten days ago it was still summer, 70s in the day and 50s at night.  Brilliant sunshine everyday.

And then it stopped.  First it rained a bit then it went cloudy and then it rained and rained and rained, it hasn’t stopped.

Now it has turned cold to nearly freezing, there is snow already in the passes and we are expecting 8″ tonight in the mountains and they are considering opening the skiing early! Autumn lasted exactly 10 days!!  Needless to say much scurrying around trying to shepherd all necessary plants into the greenhouse in the greatest haste.

Reminds me once in Memphis, Spring lasted exactly one week. The daffodils came out and were fried dead in seven days, talk about blink and you missed it!  I really hate seasons that do not go in an orderly and timely progression and flowers that you wait all year to see that are gone in the blink of an eye. I feel cheated! Anyone else had bizarre weather?

Apart from that everyone here is sick to death of that bloody election. Both left and right have got to the point that they no longer care who wins as long as the electioneering stops.  From the amount of money wasted on political ads down to those for town ratcatcher they could have paid for the national debt ‘n’ times over and paid for Obamacare out of the small change. What a ridiculous waste of money.
