When do you give up?

I have to admit that I’m somewhat addicted to the game ‘Spider’. The version on Windows 7 allows one to retrack to the beginning even after one has ‘lost’.

Until this week, I had a record of winning 86 consecutive games. In the last few days I got to 84 – and could go no further. Bearsy got that game out for me and I’ve just continued playing …

Yesterday, I got to 153 continuous wins… and I couldn’t get the 154th game out. I asked Bearsy for help. He had several tries while I was cooking dinner – no success!

Well 153 seemed a pretty good score and I was about to hit the ‘exit’ button and thought “One Last Try”.  I got that game out.

It’s becoming a bit boring! But, I’ve now won 184 consecutive games – and I’m loathe to give up until I have to!

Would you give up – or carry on until ‘forced’ to stop?

Who Am I – And What Didn’t I do?

I’m sure that most of these faces are instantly reasonable. The main question is – what do these people have in common?

Araminta has the prize! They were all considered for the part of James Bond – and none of them actually starred in any of the films…

Visitor From Britain

How many people have heard of Maryam Namazie?

Maryam is a campaigner for ‘One Law for All’ in the UK, and is disturbed by ‘the silence of parts of the media and the inaction by the British government over what she says are sharia’s attacks on the fundamental rights of Britain’s Muslim citizens.’

What I find so encouraging are the numbers of Muslims who seem to be supporting her cause.

How Quickly My Civilisation Falls Apart

Bearsy and I landed in Oz yesterday evening, Friday, at about 7.30 pm. We had left his father’s house at 7.00 am Thursday and departed the UK at 11.30 am. We were both pretty exhausted by the time we landed – the first thirteen hours flight had been boringly long, and noisily filled with the joyful and not-so joyful sound of young children whose parents seemed oblivious to the fact that other passengers might need sleep or even prefer silence. The second flight of seven hours had been almost blissfully quiet, but we were both unable to sleep.

My daughter met us at the airport with a food parcel as if we were refugees – she doesn’t share our opinion that the food in the UK is far better than we can get here! Nonetheless, it was a lovely thought since we had emptied the larder, the freezer and the fridge before leaving and it meant that we did not have to stop for basics or rush out this morning to buy food for today.

However, what we have yet to find in the UK is a shower to compare with the waterfall of hot water that we call a shower at home. We were both looking forward to drowning ourselves in hot water after the long flight… Continue reading “How Quickly My Civilisation Falls Apart”

Silence Day

One of the advantages of being in the UK is that I can read the DT supplement. An article therein was on the subject of silence and the fact that today is Silence Day.

The article asserted that people are uncomfortable with silence – I’m not – I don’t feel the need to have a background noise all the time. How about you?

Jet Lag!

Good Morning everyone!

We finally made it! I didn’t find much that I ‘must have’ in Changi – I’m determined not to go back with an extra suitcase again this year!

The flight was horrendous. I can usually fall asleep on a clothes line, but travelling in a nursery of screaming children is not conducive to even my sleep… To be fair, there were a number of beautifully behaved children – but, unfortunately there were about three who seemed to be able to detect exactly when I was about to drift off into slumber and set up a pretty good imitation of a wailing fire alarm… 😦 !

So here I am at 4.00 am and wondering just when I’ll be able to synchronise with UK time… I’ve finally got internet access. Bearsy still has to get a new sim-card for his mobile connection – he reckoned it was too wet and miserable yesterday to venture to the shops!

Alerts

The occasional alerts are intended to bring the help pages to your attention – and we do not appreciate rude comments in response.

While correcting one mistake may take only a few minutes – amending ten errors takes ten times as long. Sometimes we spend over half an hour putting things ‘right’ – and it gets tedious correcting things when we have already spent a great deal of time writing help pages.

We would ask everyone to remember that this site comes free – and it is meant to be fun for us too.

An easy one – so there are twice as many recognisable faces than usual!

They have all played Sherlock Holmes – Congratulations Araminta!

My apologies, but I haven’t had time to write biographies for this lot!

Mission Completed – thanks everyone! 😀
