Spring: it’s still wet.  But between the showers there is sunshine. Sometimes, even during the rain there is sunshine.
We had a downpour today, with a fantastic rainbow.

No time to lose. No, time to lose. Make time to stand and stare.... Did you see that?

  1. Thank you Soutie… just popped back as I remembered I hadn’t put a ‘more’ break in!

    My pleasure ~ S

  2. I think Janus is referring to the rim of the pot, Nym.

I gave away all my potted plants when we moved, so I shall have to start again.

  3. A, gave away potted plants?????

Have just had a disaster, a couple of days ago a full sized miniature Alberta Spruce (6′) blew off the front doorstep in a ceramic pot and smashed to smithereens. It had to be replanted immediately before its roots dried out. A new pot cost a swingeing $80!! (Spousal unit having quick cardiac arrest etc) So I do hope what you gave away was planted in plastic!!

I remember moving up here from Dallas. We had an old people carrier, grotty but mechanically sound. We hauled out all the seats in the back and filled it with potted plants mainly big ones and dogs. God knows what people thought was going down the road.with plants and dogs hanging out the windows, howling, drooling, transpiring and photosynthesising! With dogs one can only stay in cheap motels here and the car parks are dodgy. Needless to say, no low lifes wanted to steal plants!!! We couldn’t send them by truck as they were going to take 10 days to get here and couldn’t/wouldn’t guarantee watering them! Quite amusing, fond memories of the rolling conservatory cum zoo. It took us 4 days to get here. I refuse to drive more than 500 miles per day, against my religion.

  4. Tina, I know, but they went to a good home. The removal company refused to take them, and I didn’t have room in the car. Some were rather large, rather like your spruce, and really very heavy. I was rather reluctant to leave them, but I can always visit my friend, and claim them back.

  5. Seems removal men are as bolshie either side then, no surprises there, eh?
You could always rent one of the small U haul trucks, expensive but when one prices up the value of the plants when matured after a few years and the appalling price of replacing ceramic pots, as I have just found to my cost!, It may well be worth it. If I were ever to return to the UK, I think I would gift the plant contents and ship the pots cleaned and packed. Ceramic pots seem to have gone up in price out of all proportion to what they cost in the past. What are they like over there? The reconstituted stone were always an arm and a leg but the ceramic didn’t used to be too bad. $80 was cheap here, it was old stock, most of them were coming in at about $150!

  6. I did actually take some of my more expensive (empty) pots with me, so at some point, I’ll replant them, Tina.

Yes, pots are expensive and so are plants, but some of my plants were really not looking good. I think I rather neglected them due to the hassle of moving. Half of them I took in when one of my friends moved to Norfolk, so not really to my taste.

I’m rather looking forward to starting again.

  7. Actually, re moving the real pain was paint! I know that sounds a bit surreal but in the garden shed were about seventy tins of old paint, including boat varnish, anti-foul and bilge cleaner.

It is now illegal for removal companies to transport this stuff.

This caused a major headache. None of the local tips would take it, the nearest was north of Oxford, and there were limits as to how much one could dispose of in one trip.

I managed to give away some of it, but it wasn’t easy, and the rest of it went in the car boot.

They also will not take lawnmowers if there is even a tiny amount of petrol in the tank!

    No wonder I was stressed!

  8. A. re 14. Ditto here
AND, wait for it, they will not ship one’s booze supplies across State lines it is a crime here!!!
Every single bottle of wine had to be bubble wrapped, boxed in a compatmentalised wine box and then reboxed in a shipping case and labelled books by myself, so it didn’t make suspicious chinking noises!
    What a total pain!!!!
