Tom’s River – Tuesday June 11

Still here as expected, looks like a series of gales going through from the West.

Windy but dry for now so I took the opportunity to put another patch on the dinghy just to be sure.

Saw a big sailboat in a slip nearby, the Nina looks like a large schooner rigged wooden boat.

Port of registry is Baltimore Maryland, so she’s just as far from home as we are.

Nina c s

Flying two courtesy flags on the spreaders, a Maryland state flag on the right and an Australian flag on the left, so maybe further from home than expected.

Apart from the never-ending wind it is quite pleasant here, good internet connections and passable TV reception.

Nothing much in the way of progress here, so here’s another interior shot.

Cooler s

My pride and joy, I used this little corner if the cabin to build in a twelve-bottle wine cooler.

Perfect for keeping our Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc cool and ready for use.

  1. From Soutie: ” By the way, the OZ flag has a star under the Union Jack, the NZ flag doesn’t, which makes me think that the flag on the schooner (and admittedly the flag in the pic is waving around a bit) could be NZ, I’m no expert and in the words of JM “I could of course be wrong” :???:”

Yes I had to Google the NZ flag and found that it now has red filled stars (a recent innovation) so I went with OZ, but it is probably the old NZ ensign.

  2. I trust you discovered what a Kiwi (or maybe son of Kiwi) is doing down your way?

  3. Janus: I did try to call him on the VHF but I do not think anyone was home, sometime during the day they took the NZ flag down so maybe a visitor had departed back home, the MD flag is still there.

  4. The Aussie flag has 4 seven-pointed white stars and a smaller five-pointed white star on the side away from the pole, and a further, larger seven-pointed white star directly under the UK flag. The flag’s background is blue.

    Whereas –

The Kiwi flag has 4 five-pointed red stars on the side away from the pole – and no others. The background is the same blue.

    Simples 😀

By way of explanation for me pre-empting this post, I was looking for the map!

I visited your site hoping to find it there and of course noticed the NINA and the flag.

    … 🙂 …

  6. Thanks Bearsy.

    As I was saying earlier
