It’s rather a facile option for small countries to declare themselves ‘nuclear free’. Denmark has done it and the SNP will do it on behalf of a ‘free’ Scotland. But such posturing ignores the realities of life in the 21st C. (Every day for example Denmark may choose to buy electricity from neighbouring countries which run nuclear power stations – only confirming the hypocrisy of its policies.) Militarily, the western alliance (or NATO) ‘protects’ both territories by dint of their membership (unless the Scots go 100% neutral) and uses nuclear weapons to secure such protection. So when Iran and North Korea threaten Europe, as well they might, will the Lilliputians expect special dispensation from nuclear attack or eventual occupation? Maybe, but only total political neutrality will guarantee that. That’s the dilemma. They surely wish to be seen as supporters of European values and defenders of their own – but not, it seems, at any price or ‘in my back yard’. And would any rogue state misguided enough to launch a nuclear attack respect the nuclear neutrality of such defenceless people? I doubt it.NIMBY politics

Even total political neutrality will not stop fall-out from a nuclear attack drifting where the wind takes it. Can Salmond or Gucci Helle change the wind direction? I suppose they both emit a lot of hot air, but will that be enough?
All very true.
I have to say that these countries that play the ‘whited sepulchre’ leave me with a bad case of lip wrinkling!
My main objection to Canada too. They have no objection to riding on the coattails of other countries and their long suffering tax payers.
As for glowing in the dark it looks like N Korea is going to end up the first for that honour, what a shower of dillusionary idiots!
Have you seen the excerpts from N Korea TV? They scream everything, no-one appears to be able to talk or read the news without screaming their guts out! Good practise I suppose for dying painfully of nuclear fall out.
David, thank you. 🙂
But some hackers have managed to post pictures of Kim Jong Un with pig’s ears and snout and some truthful, if unflattering comments, on North Korea’s internet site. More screaming to be expected.
North Koreans do not actually shout very much. Korean is a rough language to begin with. It’s interesting, but it’s gravelly. Koreans in a rage sound truly terrifying. When newsreaders, North or South Korean speak their pronunciation is exaggerated. North Koreans are especially extreme. In short, that’s just how they speak.
