Spring has nearly sprung!

The recent sunny, but cold, weather has persuaded the grass on the front and back lawns to make a tentative effort at starting to grow. As the weather forecast says it will be getting warmer and wetter, I thought I had better make sure the mower would start.

After half an hour struggling with the pull cord, dirty plug, and gunged up fuel filter, it finally staggered into life. Just at that moment, another load of global warming started falling from the sky. Doh!

  1. Now come come! Not very sensible to put it away for the season dirty and unserviced!
When did you last take the blade off and have it resharpened?
You know that if you service such machines they last years longer, I don’t know about you but I have far better things to waste my money on than having to buy new lawnmowers because I didn’t pay sufficient attention to it! Ditto, the weedwacker, chain saw, hedgecutter etc etc.
Being a mean cow, I have always persuaded/intimidated/forced all husbands to perform such duties! Part of their job description! Didn’t last too long otherwise, couldn’t be doing with that!

  2. CO: I have had this mower for 10 years now. I sharpen the blade every year, but reckon it is better to service it before using it rather than before putting away for the winter. All my other garden tools are electric.

  3. Good to hear you sharpen the blade. People don’t and just mangle the grass which introduces some disgusting lawn diseases, then they spend an unnecessary fortune trying to put the whole thing right.
Just think how many bottles of good red wine that could buy!
I guess most UK properties, unless in the middle of nowhere, are able to run electric machines from the house. Not too much use round here!
