It now transpires that in 1964 he was accused and allowed by police to ‘walk’ because of his celebrity.
Not long after, the stories were whispered widely around Leeds and I heard them first from a friend who worked at the big hotel where all the ‘stars’ used to stay.
As time went by, his appearance anywhere was heralded by the same whispers and for me the greatest scandal is that nothing was ever done about them to in his lifetime.

Yes, you were right, Janus. Nothing was done, and this is shameful.
The trouble is, that yes, I agree that it should be investigated but since he is dead, and he cannot defend himself, I wonder if some of the victims are simply looking to gain financially.
How do we know?
Arrers, maybe a few are but most, I guess, seek recognition and closure.
The irritant being that he always picked people that were not in a position to defend themselves.
He never appeared to pick anyone that was old enough and strong enough to do anything about it.

It reflects incredibly badly on society and especially the police of whom I have had no good opinion since the 70s. Seemingly quite rightly so!
