Well, what a weekend of sport it’s turning out to be so far.  England getting stuffed at cricket by India, losing the first of the Autumn matches against Australia with a woeful display for three-quarters of the match then,  Laura Trott leads the girls to a right thrashing of the Australians at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

  1. Hi Bravo.

Pleased to hear about Laura, but this yellow makes it a bit difficult to read. I managed it by using my cursor to select said text and all was revealed. It’s a bit like invisible ink. 🙂

  2. I was rather pleased with the Wales vs. Samoa result, if only for the fact I have saying for years that one of the Pacific Island nations will win the world championship before too long. They are too big and too strong to be ignored and lack only the financial input of the ‘big’ nations. Having said that, Fiji can win the Hong Kong Sevens at a gallop and be trounced in the full-on game. C’mon!

I say this because, despite being there when England beat Scotland at Murrayfield for the Calcutta Cup back in 1970 something, the best game of rugby I ever attended was when Samoa played Tonga in Nuku’alofa. The earth shook.

  3. Morn’ Bravo

Not a good week was it? (Sweden? Ibrahimovic?) Not to worry, you’ve got us at Twickenham next 😉

  4. It has long been the practice of the Lords of Empire to encourage small nations in this way. Who would want teams full of Zlatans anyway? 🙂

  5. Ibrahimovic is a good old Nordic name, innit?

England looked one-dimensional at Twickers – up until the last 20 mins or so, and even then they made some pretty awful decisions. Couldn’t get tickets for any of the matches but I found a good stream so I’ll be there on Saturday full of my usual optimism that this time they’re going to do something…

  6. PS. Araminta 🙂

OZ – the Islanders always get a great welcome and great support at the Sevens. My older daughter was the envy of all her friends when a large part of the Fijian squad turned up in the club in HK where she was celebrating her 21st in ’96 – the drinks menu with their autographs, including the Little Master himself – is still one of her most prized possessions 🙂
