Don’t they watch the movies?

A Prescott win would be all the more ironic, since he and the Labour Party, led by Tony Blair opposed the idea of Police Commissioners in the first place

I was amazed when England and Wales plc decided to elect Police Commissioners, politicising the management of local forces. Shades of obese, cigar-smoking, red-neck businessmen manipulating the evidence in Hollywood crime stories. Then, sure enough, enter England’s own obese moron himself, John Prescott, 74, touting for the office in ‘Umberside, Yarkshire! Two Jags, two shags, two-faced Prezza himself! Famous for illiteracy, incomprehensible declarations of principle, violent attention to opponents, no-flunkery (just before he became Lord John, ‘to please his wife’) and £500 million down the tubes when he failed to reorganise the Fire Service. The perfect candidate to oversee law and order, dontchya think? We’ll know tomorrow if he makes it. Unbelievable.

And yes, his side-kick, appropriately, is the execrable Bliar.

  1. Boa, unfortunately not. Bliar is pictured canvassing for his old mate who was Bliar’s ticket to grass-roots voters. My guess is Prezza still has dirt on Bliar and so can still demand his support.

  2. If the good people of ‘Umberside vote for the overaged superannuated trough hogger then it will be their own fault and they will get exactly what they deserve. So there!

    OZ

  3. This election is a nonsense and I’m very much against it. The turnout is predicted to be exceedingly low. I have never felt the need to do it before but I shall spoil my vote.

  4. Thank you, Janus, your post spurred me to dig out the polling cards and go online to find out more about our candidates. Only the Conservatives and Ukip ever canvass and distribute leaflets round here and their candidates for PCC both advocate zero tolerance policing. Suits me!

  5. The lack of information about the candidates is somewhat alarming, as is the information about what these Police Commissioners actually do.

For 7 million who have no access to the internet the process is even more difficult. Why are most of the candidates standing for the main political parties? In this area we have four political candidates and two independents, all of whom sound utterly useless.

  6. I would dearly love prescott to be severely mauled in this election but he is an old school, smoke filled room operator and I would not be surprised if he got it.
Years ago when he was in power I was asked if I would like my picture taken with him for the media at an event he was hosting. I told his aide that I was fussy who I was seen with in public and declined. Prescott looked over at me with a look that said, ‘you really think I care about you, you pleb,’
One of my finer moments I think.

  7. I say the police should be run by policemen who understand the job. Not another layer of bureaucracy and spin. Lets face it, its even more expense accounts to be abused and a cack load of extra wages to be paid at a time when we are supposed to be tightening the purse strings.

‘It will make the police accountable’ they say. Hey you arrogant tory knobheads, they already ARE accountable! The weak link is the brain dead MP who they are accountable to and the fact that she in turn is accountable to the public. A lesson that must be learned but never will.

I’m with Hugh, if they vote that villain Prescott into the job they deserve everything they get. Which will be very little because he will be too busy filling both Jags and his pockets on the tax funded credit card.

  8. My sister in N Devon made exactly the same observation as ara in 6. Evidently info on the candidates is as rare as dragon’s teeth! I think it quite shocking and undemocratic to have any public event internet based only.
As for two jag words fail one…….! Bet he gets voted in (especially in Hull! What a rat hole.)

  9. Absolutely agree with you, Furry.

Apparently they are going to pay these people up to £100,000 per annum.

It’s quite undemocratic, Tina, I agree.

“The Home Office has been accused of leaving the public in the dark over who is standing.
Officials refused to offer free mailshots, despite concerns from the Electoral Commission, and it emerged earlier this week that more than 108,000 requests for information on candidates from the Home Office had still not been answered.
Information is available online but a phone hotline for those without internet access has also been criticised as “totally shambolic” by one whistleblower.”

  10. It seems a rather silly election, but the problem is that a lot of present day and recent Chief Constables are politicised appointees from the Blair/Brown Terror era! At least in our area there are two independent candidates who are both ex-job!

  11. I know the elections are not for Chief Constables, but the new Commisioners will have the power to rein them in.

  12. Don’t even get me started as to the stupidity of this political farce!
Both ConDem and Labour candidates will do as their party tells them so no accountability there
I’ve just voted for the Independent candidate, but I won’t hold my breath.

Absurd, ridiculous, unnecessary and a total waste of tax-payers’ money.

And…….I can face the sack for even expressing this view.

  13. Well said Cuprum ol’ boy.

I have made a point of not voting at all. Pointless I know, but hopefully the turnout will be so poor that these aerosols will realise they are about as welcome as Jimmy Saville at a jambouree.

  14. I see the turnout in Devizes was 10%!

Caption to pic: “The big hand is on the 6 and the little hand is on the 2, Pauline.”

    Area mints,
Yes they certainly did sound useless.
After walking the dog Mrs J and I decided to do our duty. The voting station was only ten minutes walk from home, it was deserted except for the two very bored looking people manning the desk who confirmed that practically no one had turned up to vote. I voted for Ukip and one independent (guess which?).
Needn’t have bothered, the Tory wooden top got in.
Good to see that Prezza got shafted.

  16. Hi Jazz.

The Tory candidate was pretty certain to win, which is why I didn’t have a problem spoiling my vote. It was a given.

Yes, I would have been very miffed if Prescott has won.

I went to the polling station after lunch and I was the only one there. Pretty low turnout for Thames Valley, I see.

  17. Araminta,

Apologies for the strange spelling of your name in my previous post. This is entirely due to the iPad spell function which corrects as you go. As you see one can get caught out. Mind you ‘ Area Mints’ is an interesting variation. I really didn’t notice it. Honest.

  18. I wuz robbed, Pauline darlin. And why do stupid demon, demoron, people follow Tony around with misspelt banners?
