Sorry to be so utterly mundane but I just have to remark on the bizarre weather here. Ten days ago it was still summer, 70s in the day and 50s at night. Brilliant sunshine everyday.
And then it stopped. First it rained a bit then it went cloudy and then it rained and rained and rained, it hasn’t stopped.
Now it has turned cold to nearly freezing, there is snow already in the passes and we are expecting 8″ tonight in the mountains and they are considering opening the skiing early! Autumn lasted exactly 10 days!! Needless to say much scurrying around trying to shepherd all necessary plants into the greenhouse in the greatest haste.
Reminds me once in Memphis, Spring lasted exactly one week. The daffodils came out and were fried dead in seven days, talk about blink and you missed it! I really hate seasons that do not go in an orderly and timely progression and flowers that you wait all year to see that are gone in the blink of an eye. I feel cheated! Anyone else had bizarre weather?
Apart from that everyone here is sick to death of that bloody election. Both left and right have got to the point that they no longer care who wins as long as the electioneering stops. From the amount of money wasted on political ads down to those for town ratcatcher they could have paid for the national debt ‘n’ times over and paid for Obamacare out of the small change. What a ridiculous waste of money.
Christina, it’s that Al Gore’s fault – him and his global warming!
We here in the Eastern Cape are today ‘enjoying’ our 6th consecutive day of non-stop rain. I’m not one to complain but talk about feast or famine! Our dams have been overflowing for days now, roads have been washed away and commuting is hazardous. Our infrastructure just isn’t geared for these sort of volumes.
Driving home last night it was torrential, our street lighting leaves a lot to be desired so I had to revert to an old tactic, wait for a truck. Even in a 4×4 it was nervy, fortunately a large truck was heading my way, I nestled perhaps 100m behind him and let him lead the way, amusingly a look in my rear view mirror showed me a smaller car using me as a pathfinder! No problem home safe and sound.
We’re told that it should stop today or by the latest tomorrow.
Is it unusual, I don’t think so, It’s not an annual occurrence that’s for sure, remember we’ve just come through a 4 year drought but I’m pretty sure that we’ve experienced it before
Here in CT, the weather is quite typical for this time of year. Some warm sunny days, some chilly and wet, but nothing too dramatic either way. But I hope that spring will soon give way to summer. I am not big on cold. Yesterday I spoke to a friend who lives in Berkshire. She said it was far too cold for autumn and had gone straight to winter.
As for the elections, increasingly I feel that the Chinese have got it right.
Morning Mrs O. Beautiful fall weather here, leaves just starting to change, looks like a good color year due to the dry summer I suppose. Highs in the 70’s lows in the low 50’s a little rain in the last few days but almost all at night. We are off on four day boat trip down the bay on Thursday, good weather forecast all week.
TR here recently had the best take on the upcoming election, an old comment from Henry Kissinger about the never ending Iran-Iraq war “It’s a pity they both can’t lose” Perfect.
Sipu: Summer is a long time away in Connecticut? 🙂
A few weeks ago the temperature dropped 50 degrees in one day. Then it was cold for a week. Then it was mild, then almost warm, then cool again. I’ve been informed by people who grew up in Minnesota that autumn weather — even winter weather — is highly unpredictable. Still, I shall not complain as this winter promises to be dry. While that sounds pleasant, it’s not. When winters are dry here they are also usually bitterly cold as there is no moisture to prevent the temperature from dropping too low.
Then weather all over the place. Some as to be expected and others very changeable.
Finally finished the greenhouse in that everything is at least in, but utter chaos as yet. Trouble is, plants grow from year to year, get repotted and need more and more room. I haven’t got the heart to actually throw anything out, it is quite a relief when something dies and makes a bit of space!
Christina, it’s all a part of God’s Great Cull – dealing with overpopulation – Flora and Fauna, to name but two of the old girls.
