We’ve gone and won a trophy!
It was a nailbiter (26-25)
I can’t remember when Eastern Province last won anything, so hats off to Cheeky Watson (he who drowned his 4×4, he might be lacking on the road sense front but he’s mapped out a super strategy for our provincial rugby team)
We beat the Ford Pumas yesterday afternoon (match report here) The Pumas are from the Nelspruit area (that’s up near the Kruger Park,) used to be called Eastern Transvaal, only demoted from the A section of the Currie Cup last year, we’d played them twice before this season, up there in August (30-30) and down here (26-26) just 3 weeks ago. As you can see 2 very evenly matched teams.
So, we won the 1st division trophy, we’re also guaranteed SuperRugby next year (first game v the Western Australian Force on Feb 23rd,) and we now know our opponents for the promotion relegation playoff games for the Currie Cup proper. It’s going to be The Free State Cheetahs! A SuperRugby franchise, they’ve got a hatfull of Springboks in their squad. Can Cheeky deliver us over this final hurdle?
We’ll find out next week.
