Tea party, anyone?

As I drove through a local village a couple of evenings ago I saw a table set up in a front garden festooned with bunting.

I stopped to investigate. A scarecrow type figure, all ready for the Jubilee Weekend.

Oh, look, it’s the Queen. And a corgi.

And further down the road the neighbours were socialising over the fence –

I didn’t stop to see more, but saw a notice about a Pram Race on Saturday. Could be fun!

No time to lose. No, time to lose. Make time to stand and stare.... Did you see that?

  1. Morning Pseu

Excellent, I’ve enjoyed the various pics in the media showing you guys decorating roads, villages, buildings, you name it, all ready for the weekend, nice to see people celebrating and having a good time.

What is the significance of the scarecrows, is it a historical / traditional thing? I’ve seen others and read about some towns having a competition.

  2. Not much bunting round here, but The Queen is visiting Henley so perhaps they are saving it up for her visit.

This village seems to have entered into the spirit of the occasion!

  3. I don’t think The Cave is on her route, but I will have the Union Flag flying nonetheless.

    Sob!

  4. I bought a Patriotic Bouquet today, complete with little Union Jack. You could probably make up your own red, white and blue bouquet, OZ.

  5. Sheona – Do you think that red hibiscus, white oleander and blue gentian violets, all from the gardens and hillsides around The Cave, would suffice?

    Sniffle.

  6. sounds good to me.
I have lupins, white poppies and iris making up my red white and blue

  7. Hi Pseu,

My house is decorated with Union flags and various Royal Blue rosettes/scarves etc. all year long. Nice to see the rest of the country following suit this weekend. 🙂

Looking forward to the Jubilee celebrations immensely.

  8. Why am I not surprised?
Our party on the green is tonight. Fingers crossed for weather that is not wet. That’s all I ask. Oh, and not too windy 🙂

  9. Your Patriotic Bouquet sounds lovely, OZ. And Portugal is one of our oldest allies, isn’t it? Very suitable.

  10. I’m sort of surprised that the Jubilee has caused quite so much fuss and hoohaa. Must be causing the republicans a great deal of angst! I suppose it is better to waste public money on our ‘own’ rather than the olympics!
I wonder how many are flying the Union Jack in Wales, not many I’ll be bound! But I expect there will be a fair amount of dragons about.
I think I’ll fly mine for 4 days here.
Quite amusing watching people slowing down trying to work out what Ruritanian country has a dragon for a flag, none of them ever recognise it. Quite sets the cat amongst the pigeons.
Well I could fly the confederate flag here and really get them worked up! (Belonged to the boy who was born in Memphis!)
    Have a good weekend.
