What about the term bokkie? It’s a very popular term of endearment / petname down here, have you heard it before? Is it used anywhere else?

Môre Janus as I thought. Skat (sweetheart, darling, treasure) can be used here when conversing with complete strangers.

I seem to remember that you enjoyed foreign terms and phrases, of course the suffix ‘kie’ is the diminutive.
In German the term is “Schatz”, although Schatzie and Schätczhen are also frequently used, both being diminutive forms. There is also a “skat” in German, der Skat, to be precise, but that refers to the card game.
