What a waste of a great talent. Very sad news indeed for drug dealers everywhere.

Fixed that for you. No need to thank me.

Don’t fuck about with my comments OZ. You are not as funny as you appear to think you are.

  3. I feel so sorry for her parents. I think they tried to get her off the drink and the drugs.

  4. sheona :

Spot on sheona. No parent should outlive their children.

  5. Furry ’nuff, Toc – you are obviously a fan of the late junkie. I’m not, but have two teenaged nieces for whom an unsuitable potential role model has been removed although I credit them both with much more sense than the above mentioned unlamented.

  6. Hi OZ.

She was not a good role model, I agree, but I do feel sad for her parents and family, and she was so young.

I have to admit that the deaths of promising youngsters in Norway has touched me rather more.

  7. OZ,

It’s not a case of “Furry ’nuff, Toc.’ One of the golden rules of this site is not to mess or change the comments of other bloggers. Also, don’t be so bloody presumptuous as to assume whom I am or am not a fan of. You are beginning to get right up my nose.

  8. I’m with OZ on this.
It was her own fault/choice, and whilst every death is a shame, the world has lost little.
    Sorry, Toc.

  9. Bearsy :

    I’m with OZ on this.

    Sorry, Toc.

No need to apologise to me Bearsy. My comment before it was changed by OZ stands.

  10. Araminta – Agreed. Every sympathy to her parents and family who seemed to have done everything to help. As for AW one can argue to kingdom come whether she was a victim of circumstances or a flawed character who became rich and famous.

    linkey thing

  11. Toc, Just for the record, I can’t change your comment, which is still there at #1 – it’s Soutie’s post not mine and I would never change any comment even if it was.

    OZ

  12. Toc – on a point of order, OZ didn’t change your comment – he changed a copy of it. Your original comment stands unscathed. 🙂

On another point of order, for everyone to note.
Do we really have to quote the entirety of every comment that we’re responding to? That’s what the comment number [eg. #13] is for. Quoting bits is fine, but it narks me to see every blooming comment posted twice or sometimes three times, with inset quotes of what she said to him and he said to her … Why not just answer the comment?

  13. Toc – Following on from your #9 (and Beary’s #15), I had no desire to get up your nose and apologise unreservedly if I unintentionally offended you. 🙂

  14. Incidentally, is the discussion of certain root vegetables against the rules?

Why are Levent’s comments consigned to Trash? He is after all an author on this site, I believe.

    Only asking.

  15. Amy’s mother predicted her early death in 2008….too many youngsters dabble in drink and drugs and then get hooked….Amy’s death was inevitable, she had lots of help, was in rehab many times and relapsed almost as soon as she came out….I wonder if she was happy!

  16. Forget it OZ I have. You are one of the site good guys. However, should I ever get to Portugal I will let you buy me me a meal. 🙂

  17. Araminta,

Wasn’t Levent bloody rude to the site owners on one of his deleted posts on MyT? If anyone attacked my wife I would rip his throat out. My wife would do the same if anyone did it to me. Consigned to trash is an easy option.

P.S. Yes, this was addressed to Bearsy. Just remember what I sad about an open forum.what

  18. I always got the impression AW was not happy, rosie. As Araminta’s cyberfriend said, AW came across as a troubled soul.

  19. Thank you, Tocino.

I have to confess I don’t remember such an incident, but I am sure you are right.

Frightfully kind of you to answer my query.

About these root vegetables; perhaps you would like to enlighten me about too.

  20. Toc – I may not buy you a meal, but I will certainly hunt one down for you and throw it on the fire and provide some decent Portuguese red to wash it down. Ferret will, I believe, provide references. 🙂

  21. She was a very ill person, and it is so sad she was unable to overcome the addictions despite support and a loving family. She had an amazing voice and those recordings will be a memorial to her talent.

  22. Oh please

Just another sad victim of the industry?

Ask Ronnie Wood why dont you?

She was a druggie and a disgusting role model, given publicity because of her and he ruseless waste of oxygen boy friends extremely bad behaviour.

Rot in peace and lets see more of your kind in the same place. That is the lesson to be learned.

  23. Ferret,

I bet you will cream your jeans when Margaret Hilda Thatcher, Baroness Thatcher passes over. No accounting for sexual predilections.

  24. Araminta,

A case of selective memory Dahling? You normally sit on posts here and there like a ‘shitehawk‘ and miss nothing. I do believe it was after one of you mates was kicked off this site. I know nothing about root vegetables as I never look at the trash can.

  25. With you ferret,#33.
    Darwin territory.
Ill, my left foot, totally self inflicted waste of space.
    Tedious to say the least.

  26. Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, two more greatly talented but deeply troubled souls, also died at 27. It’s a shame when people waste their lives like that. Life, not matter how weak or decrepit, is precious.

  27. I don’t know very much about the woman, except that I did not think she was exactly the greatest role model for anyone.

To turn what was a sad waste of life and an untimely death into a ‘great tragedy’ seems to me to be quite wrong – the message that “Drugs = Death” should be going out loud and clear.

  28. There is no doubt Amy’s life-style was glamourised – like Pete Doherty’s. But I still believe in ‘nil nisi bonum de mortuis’ – it’s called ‘there but for the grace of God go I’ thinking.

  29. Janus

I’m also of the ‘there but for the Grace of God” mind-set. What really upsets me is her, and others like her, life style is glamourised.

So many youngsters aim to be ‘celebrities’ – often with little talent – and seem to think that living in the super fast lane of drugs and alcohol is a way to be a celebrity.

    B***y media again…!

  30. Very, very sad, but I always thought her talent somewhat overrated. I don’t know if that contributed to her problems.

  31. No-one forced her to do drugs and booze to the extreme. She was a lot better off than many people trapped in adiction. She had access to the best support and counsel available. Hopefully the bleeding hearts will shut the f#’k up now and present the real message to be learned. Do drugs and die. Hell they plaster it all over a packet of B&H FFS, why not use this to do something useful for once?

FEEG, her music was shite even when it was at its very best, in recent years she had the gall take money from an audience where she couldn’t even remember how to stand up, let alone her words.

There are a million glaze eyed young girls in Kareoke pubs up and down th eland who idolise the woman and the joke of it all is that 90% of the misguided fools can sing her stuff better than she ever could.

I shall not shed a tear except if the nauseating ‘tragic loss’ meeja bollox interferes with my enjoyment of the F1 at the Nurburgring today.

  32. tocino :

    Ferret,

I bet you will cream your jeans when Margaret Hilda Thatcher, Baroness Thatcher passes over. No accounting for sexual predilections.

Just saw this TOC,Not sure what you are trying to get at, but I have made no secret of how happy I will be when that evil bitch bites the dust. Nothing sexual that sounds a little perverse.

  33. Only 27. Yes her death is a waste. I expect her friends and family saw it coming.

I like your pithy message Ferret, “Do Drugs and Die.” If more people went around schools preaching that message with large photos of how “role models” like Amy end up, maybe it would make some small difference.

Addicts are all hopeless whether they have money or whether they don’t. Some realise their predicament and get help, others don’t. Often the help doesn’t work either. My solution would be to take the addicts away completely to another country, work them hard in a new environment and get them to realise what life’s *really* all about and feel some self-respect before letting them loose on the world again. No funding for that kind of thing though, apparently.

  34. A singer addicted to drugs and alcohol dies and its all over the news within minutes. ‎5 days ago Corporal Mark Anthony Palin from 1st Battalion The Rifles was killed in action, but who knows?

Forgive me if I find little time to join the mis-guided display of overblown emotion over the death of a junkie who had everything going for her.

  35. The death of Ms Winehouse.is pretty irrelevant to me .I am an atheist and I do not believe in the sanctity of human life. And, as someone who did not know or appreciate her music, the fact that she is no longer making it does not bother me,Perhaps I should rejoice that there is one less person alive in an already overpopulated world. However, I cant help but be reminded of other hugely talented people who met premature deaths as a result of their unconventional lifestyles. Christopher Marlowe, Wolfgang Mozart, Vincent Van Gogh, Oscar Wilde, Alan Turing, to name a few. I think the humankind might have benefited had they lived longer.
