What will you be doing tomorrow morning? Fancy a swim, followed by a relaxing cycle and then a quick jog to cool down?

- Race start at Hobie Beach
Tomorrow morning sees the start of this year’s Ironman Africa;
A 3.8km swim
180km cycle
Followed by a 42.2km marathon.
Port Elizabeth has hosted the event for the last three or four years now, as I write the weather appears perfect, not a breath of wind and (almost) clear skies.
It would appear as though the weather is going to play along (for once) and we could just possibly have perfect conditions for a world class event.
It’s an early start for me, got to be there at 5.30 am!
Here’s my kit.
Ja, well, we’re marshalls (not the Wyatt Earp sort, although I’ll have my ‘peacemaker’ with me.)
We’re doing it for Autism Eastern Cape, the organisers appoint charities to man the various traffic intersections and refreshment areas, I’ll be at 6th avenue tomorrow from 5;30am.
They’re paying us 5 grand for the day, cool, that’s a lot of our money for a days volunteering š

I have plans for tomorrow which do not include a marathon of any sort, but good for you, Soutie.
I hope it’s an enjoyable event and raises loads of dosh. It’s a very worthwhile cause.
Hi Soutie. A friend of mine from Zim will be participating. Last year, out of the blue, she decided that she wanted to do it. She had never run a kilometer, let alone a marathon, nor had she swum more than a few lengths or cycled to any extent. But she did it. Aged 40! This is her second year and this time she has been training all year. She is quite fit – in every sense. One day I hope to ride the Argus; but Iron Man, that is something else. Enjoy your day.
I have a great problem with people that do this kind of thing.
I wonder what is wrong with them, all too vaguely Neanderthal for me.
Just write a check, so much less aggravating.
Check?
I am convinced the human body was not designed to run marathons. Look what happened to poor old Phidippides. Still I hope you enjoy yourself, Soutie.
Soutie: I was planning on entering but winning the previous poetry comp so tired me out that I could not participate. As a marshal you will probably earn the five big but it is in a good cause.
Ara. Yes, check, it’s like a cheque but it does not bounce.
South Africa ….. Ironman Competition …. Area where sharks breach water …. Hmmmmm? š¦
Nah! I shall give it a miss and stick to the much safer sport of mud-wrestling with crocodiles! š
I could do the swimming part….
