The Results: CW Competition

Here we go:

  1. https://charioteers.org/2011/02/08/the-ribbon-of-death/

This was a powerful and poignant tale, based on a real life event and it entwined the necessary theme, word and elements very naturally into the story.

  1. https://charioteers.org/2011/02/08/feb-writing-comp-cabin-fever/

This was a very amusing account with some interesting turns of phrase which tickled my fancy: ‘a man built for speed rather than comfort’ made me laugh out loud… and there was a neat twist in the tale.

  1. https://charioteers.org/2011/02/09/the-visitor-cw-entry/

Bearsy story again was very amusing and the unexpected infidelity sure put a spaniel in the works and another twist in the tail.

  1. https://charioteers.org/2011/02/13/22727/

O Zandango’s contribution was an enigmatic tale of a funeral and several guests with ‘significant  history’… who hasn’t been to one of those?

  1. http://julietee.wordpress.com/2011/02/21/blue-lagoons/

Julie Tee’s story has I believe had a previous airing at MyT- I admired it then as I admire it now: a cleverly told story of a reunion (told second-hand through a meeting with a friend) which leads the heroine to see a different perspective of her own life.

  1. https://charioteers.org/2011/02/23/the-political-wife-going-back/

Ara’s political wife picked up where her last story finished – and here we see a wife returning to meet her friend who has called her back as the estranged husband has died – only to find that the said friend has been betraying her for years. It is a very sad story with the main character driving off into the dust in her ex-friend’s car, with only her dogs to keep her company.

  1. https://charioteers.org/2011/02/23/the-reunion/

John Mackie’s piece is a masterpiece of imitation, with Significant Important Capitalisation all over the page. Marvellous. I enjoyed this reonion immensely. In particular I enjoyed Pooh’s Pom for the Occasion of Tigger’s Funeral.

My taxi service completed for the evening and my reading and re-reading completed, I have now

Come To  A Conclusion:

The winner is:

  1. The Royalist with this: https://charioteers.org/2011/02/08/the-ribbon-of-death/

Woohoo

  1. Thank you, Pseu.
And thanks OZ (nice use of alliteration)

Firstly, sorry I’ve not been around lately, just the usual boring “too busy” excuse. Commiserations to the other entrants, some well told tales in there and you are all winners in my book. Take heart from what could have been a strategic decision on Pseu’s part. I gather this means you don’t have to suffer one of my “works” this month.

On a personal level, this has been a great past six months for me: I guessed successfully one, you read it right -one, of the faces in Boa’s Who Am I contests, I was coasting to victory in Battleships before the Duke of Embra pulled the plug and now this, the pineapple of my career.

Today I’ll try to set the theme for the next competition.
    TTFN.

  2. Afternoon all. Looking forward to the new competition….not a strategic decision at all, royalist!

  3. Haw, JW. A well-deserved result and gaun yer own, by the way!

But, see yer crack aboot ra Battleships gemme? I’m no feart of ye, pal. As the immortal but sadly deid Hamish Imlach had it in his braw song a’ aboot Big Jim and ra 37 bus:-

‘Ah’ve finished aff 50 bigger than youse, jist to get intae ra fight.’

Cannae find it on you tube, which is a scunner, and it’s onyway far afore yer time, as usual, but yin of ma favourite Glesca chants in days of auld lang syne and when getting arsed in ra Union Bar of Weegie Uni, whilst slumming.

To all other authors, please forgive me for attempting to bond with my close personal friend, JW. by attempting to address him in his own delightful patois? Don’t really speak it but one has done one’s best.

In seriousness, well done, JW. I thought that it was a clear winner and I am delighted that Pseu agreed.

Moving on, JW. On the Battleships front, it’s never too late, whatever the regrettably absent Viking might feel. I’ve still got all the necessary information to re-instate the grid. I just might have time in the next week or two.

You may well have pushed me to the brink.

  4. Boa/Bearsy/Soutie

Good evening and apologies. Correct attempt now, I hope. If you can find the time, please tidy up my embedding ineptitude in the last comment in any way which you wish.

  5. A quick Oscar thank you to the well-wishers: Pseu, Boa, OZ, OMG, Bilby. Appreciated.

To my Battleships buddy, all I can say is- John, you remain, as ever, My Hero.
