Next Creative Writing Competition – An Announcement

Ferret has suggested  that I set the deadline for the CW competition too far in advance.

On reflection, I think he’s right and that I was being a wee thing Jockocentric. We’re in full school holiday mode up here at the moment so I thought that lots of people would be away. I forgot that South and West Britain  are still to go there, wherever it is.  As regards the other parts of the known world, I think that we are probably only awaiting one or two more possible entries and I hope that moving the deadline will not inconvenience anybody in  far flung airts (look it up, it’s a braw word, in my opinion)

So, any objections if I move said deadline to midnight GMT and equivalent timezones on Wednesday 21st July 2010? I await comments.

  1. John, I’ve stuck this to the top of the Front Page so that everyone will see it.

  2. Afternoon, JM – Just come inside a) to watch the British GP and b) it’s as hot as Hades out there; 36ºC in the shade!

Do you need new links to the entries on this here thread?

    OZ

  3. I think I have already indicated that it is not a problem, John and I’ll get my literary skates on!

Now if only I could recall what the blooming heck I’m supposed to be writing about. I shall backtrack.

  4. Pseu and Ara, good evening.

Fair enough. It is, nonetheless, a bit of a worry to me that the distaff side of the blogsite formerly known as Bearsy’s Cave would appear, to date, to have been completely incapable of organising their time sufficiently efficiently to post an entry. The boys, on the other hand, have clearly coped superbly.

Where’s your much vaunted and taunted multi-tasking now then?

For the avoidance of doubt, I’m watching the WC final whilst typing this. C’mon the Cloggies.

  5. Yikes, Mr Mackie, I haven’t missed a deadline yet, despite the fact that the house looks a mess, everyone is looking thinner and all my friends think I’ve emigrated.

One could get cross, but I won’t!

  6. One could so easily take a huff at comments like that, Mr Mackie.
I have been multi-tasking in many areas, I’ll have you know. Not least emptying the contents of my 5 water butts on vulnerable plants for the last hour. And that was after cooking supper, sorting out the washing, nipping into town, being boys taxi service around Oxfordshire…and hmmmm well, lying back in a deckchair reading the Sunday papers on a Sunday, for once.
(*last weeks weren’t even opened until Thursday)

I will apply my mind after I’ve attempted to keep another deadline (tomorrow morning’s homework for class)

  7. Ara, it’s that cursed ‘joshing’ again and sorry.

Monty Mouse and AN Other or Others would be perfectly acceptable, by the way. His author is sufficiently well-known hereon so far as I am concerned.

  8. I might have to give this one a miss. My tasks have become too multi, and I’m the kind of nut who would have to do research on this one.

Did you know that on the UK visa apps they ask the following questions:

6.12 Have you, ever been involved in, supported, or encouraged terrorist activities in any country? Have you,
ever been a member of, or given support to an organisation that has been concerned in terrorism?
Put a cross (x) in the relevant box: Yes No

6.13 Have you ever, by any means or medium, expressed views that justify or glorify terrorist violence or that may encourage others to terrorist acts or other serious criminal acts? Put a cross (x) in the relevant box: Yes No

Uh … and the financial requirements are even more over the top and less preventative than that. I shudder to think of the US visa apps. I’d check it out but can’t suffer the embarrassment.

  9. Hola, jaime.

Sorry you won’t be able to have time to enter.

Hope you make it through that visa jungle. Still enjoy the alleged tale of Gilbert Harding being asked “Is it your intention to overthrow the government of the United States?” and replying ‘Sole purpose of visit.’
