We climbed up to this amazing castle. Got right to the top after a difficult climb.

Built by Saint Louis, Louis IX canonised for his participation in the crusades, for a long time it protected our border with Spain. Work commenced in 1242 on a site that had been in use since Roman times. In the 17th century we moved our border south and the castle was no longer needed. Though it was occupied up until the Revolution.
That’s “Peyrepertuse” actually, with an additional ‘r’.
See here.
I really wish you would not be quite so measly with your information – I had to go and look this up. The lower part was built by the kings of Aragon and only the higher part by Louis IX. Far more interesting to me was the fact that it was a Cathar stronghold… 🙂
Boa, it is the translation which is hard work and quite honestly I don’t know english for quite a few french words.

I’m sure your French to English translation is far better than mine – but I’ll struggle with it tomorrow. Thanks for the link.
Absolutely stunning castle with fantastically extensive views! You did well to climb right up there. I’m wondering if the Tour de France is going anywhere near there this year… Will find out.
~Wow that looks fantastic.
May try that later in the year, as we are looking for an area of Europe to visit.
didn’t the tour go past last year?
