You can edit your ‘display name’ in your profile, I logged in with a lower-case ‘s’ and have now added a ‘nickname’ with an upper-case ‘S’ which I’ve selected.
It appears that we are able to select a different ID for display purposes from our ‘user name’

Yes, considering it was assigned to me at random, I’m starting to warm to my gif image avatar. Not only does it relieve me of the need to inflict my real crumbly mug shot on the unsuspecting blogosphere, but I feel a resonance – it reflects the lurking inner nerd, totally perplexed by what he sees through those specs. He also seems to have a toothbrush lodged between a gap in the molars, possibly eliciting a degree of sympathy from total strangers.

One thing’s for sure, you can’t get in a serious punch up with an avatar you can’t take too seriously. I expect you will receive comments ranging from mild bemusement to err… mild bemusement. 🙂

Erm, some people are never happy. I could go back to the old one if you like, but I do feel that it is a bit out of date. The alternative is to go with sa furry animal or geometric shape (which seem to be in vogue around here.
Personally, I’d rather just be me!
