Left the lock 7 wall at 8:00 to try to make it to Troy by mid afternoon as a storm was threatening, hard to believe as this was the morning view.

Canajahorie Monday – Tuesday to Lock 7
The prime mover needed an oil change so we made a trip to NAPA in Canajahorie Monday morning for oil and filters.
Decided to bag the rest of the day and make it up tomorrow. Cooked a chicken vindaloo for dinner.
Tuesday, brilliant day, still and bright, got started at 8:30
Not a breath of wind but a chill in the air (temp about 60F)
Utica to Canajahorie – August 4
Raining hard in the early hours so held off a start until it eased at 9:45am
Plan to run Locks 19 through 14 today (all down) for a total descent of 120’ over 40 miles, may be tight given our late start. Especially as we are getting into the area that was worst hit by the rain damage in the late spring.
Signs of remediation work everywhere, dredgers old and new
Sylvan Beach to Utica (via Rome) August 3
Late off today, stormy morning and rain.
Finally got rolling at 10:00 when things started to settle down.

A rainy day in Phoenix (NY not AZ) – August 1
Rain stopped play today, a good internet connection and lots of time, but not a lot of action.
During yesterday evening “Frances” arrived, a big old tug out of Troy, she rumbled in quietly and moored across the canal at the big boys wharf. I think the crew went to Sammy’s Sports Bar up the street for dinner and a few brews.

Cape Vincent to Oswego – July 31
Left the village dock at 7:45 am as the weather forecast called for increasing winds in the afternoon, and it’s 55 miles of open water across Lake Ontario to Oswego.
It’s a big lake (a great lake if you prefer) about 160 miles East to West and 60 miles N-S.
Kingston Mills (Ont.) to Cape Vincent (NY) – July 30
Quiet this morning when we left our wall, about 8 am

Upper Brewers to Kingston Mills – July 27,28,29
Off our friendly wall at 8:45 am, one of the few advantages of a big boat, one gets to go first.

Chaffey’s to Upper Brewers Lock – July 25
Really packed us in this morning much too-ing and fro-ing before we were rightly wedged.
This is in the lock and due to the fall we lose about 2 feet in width at the bottom, I did wonder if we would be able to get ourselves out.

Narrows Lock to Chaffey’s Lock – July 24
Left our wall after the crowd departed, a little rain yesterday but a good sunset.
Our fourth of fifth day without cellphone or internet access, blissfully quiet.
Our last up lock we are now at the high point of the Rideau, now all the navigation marks reverse Green marks now are to be left to ones right (OK?)
Here’s one that some wag has helpfully augmented, “The channel goes down there?”
