This is one of the hardest blogs I’ve had to write and I was in two minds before writing this because I feared my plain little words would not do the subject justice. New Year is a time for reflection and events from the past have caught up with us. Some anniversaries can be hard to take. The past week I’ve spoken to friends and family and some people I know from the other “tradition” and it does put things in perspective.

In a few days time it will be the fortieth anniversary of the Ibrox disaster and there will be a minutes silence at the ground before the Old Firm match on January 2nd 2011. A memorial service will be held at Ibrox Stadium the following day.

On the 2nd of January 1971 sixty-six Rangers fans lost their lives. Continue reading “Untitled”

ZULU

I watched the film on Channel 4 today for the umpteenth time. I have to admit to paying more attention to detail this time as I visited the site of the battle in September this year. Here are some pictures that I took:-

I know several other site members have made a visit. I don’t know what you thought, but unless you had seen the film (has any one not) it is very hard to get a real picture the battle. In the film, the whole area looks bigger than it really is.

An Unholy Alliance

see that about a hundred Labour MPs plan to join Conservatives in voting against changing the electoral system from ‘first-past-the-post’. Senior figures from both sides are already meeting to discuss the matter. As a result of this alliance we see the likes of William Hague and John Prescott in bed together. Former Labour MP Joan Ryan said: “This issue is more important than party politics.”

As one who sees most issues as more important than party politics, I find it interesting that these people get together on an issue which is likely to affect their personal welfare directly. Perhaps they should consider tackling other issues, of national importance, in similar mode, giving their whips a day off occasionally. Fat chance!

Computer problem?

As we Silver Surfers know, sometimes we have trouble with our computers.

I had a problem yesterday, so I called Tom, the 11 year old next door, whose bedroom looks like Mission Control and asked him to come over.

Tom clicked a couple of buttons and solved the problem.

As he was walking away, I called after him, So, what was wrong?

He replied, It was an ID ten T error.’

I didn’t want to appear stupid, but nonetheless inquired,

An, ID ten T error? What’s that? In case I need to fix it again.’

Tom grinned..’Haven’t you ever heard of an ID ten T error before?

No,’ I replied.

Write it down,’he said, and I think you’ll figure it out.’

So I wrote down:

I used to like Tom, the little b*****d,

Monkey Mia for Bilby

Monkey Mia Dolphin

Monkey Mia is approx 700kms north of Perth.  My last visit in 2008, was a very different experience to my first trip in 1990.  The resort (which it now is) boasts air conditioned villas, restaurant and bar.  Previously it was a campsite, on the basis of BYO tent, or hire an oven, although I think they described them as caravans!

Whilst being far more regimented regarding the interaction with the dolphins, being a five star accommodation kind of girl, I prefer the way it is these days.

If you happen to be over this way, have the time, and the desire for a little peace and quiet, I can highly recommend the place.  Take plenty of sun block and reading matter and you’ll have a ball….
